390 dual 4 barrel intake
I am looking for a dual quad intake for a stock headed 390 FE motor. Does anyone still make them or where do I look. Also does the truck bellhousing for a 4 spd. the same as for a 4 speed car trans?

offenhauser make a hi rise 2x4 intake.i used one on my 65 galaxie with a 67 428. used carters carbs mounted backwards worked great better than the stock intake that i had. if it was going on a 390 why? i'm no fan of the 390. the only one that ever impressed me was the 401 hp version which was avaible in 1961 and 1962. using stock 390 heads is a no.no. be carefull of the heads that have four bolt holes on the exhaust these were heads for the 390's in a fairlanes with 2 barrel carb. they have real small intakes runners they don't breath. on the bell housing for 390 truck engine, there are 2 different housings one for the hd trans(call the granny gear trans) the other is for the 3-speed top loader which will accept a top loader 4-speed. but if the 390 is going in to a car try to find a car bellhousing.some cars use the block to support the equializer shaft some use the bell housing.

is it a 390 or 391?? truck engine a 391 has a forged crankshaft and other hd stuff.the truck engines usually run out of steam around 4000 rpm. get a 428 and put your money in it,you will be a lot happier. a built 428 will hold its own with just aboutanything out there. and as far a eldebrock intake and heads go they could only get 400 hp out of it . that is real sad. info like that is for bench racers i go by what you can feel in the real world(seat of the pants).

i'm under the impression that he has a truck 390. not a car 390. i've been racing and building fe ford for over 40 years along with the y-block fords. i did most of my racing on the street and a little on the tracks which i've held several track records.i only usen 410's.406's and 428s. 427s are the best fe but you pay through the nose for them.puting a 2x4 intake on a stock engine is just a little to much. a good alum.intake(offy dual port or equaflow 360 with a 600 cfm carb is the best way to go.)anytime you use more than one carb. you better have engine that can walk the walk.the 429 and 460 are so much better than the fe and cid is off the chart i have a 494 in my 69 gaxalie and there is a guy that has a 814cid.i think you will regret putting a 2x4 on a stock 390.don't waste you timme and money my advice.

The poster has a 390 in his vehicle - and asked if there was a 2x4 manifold available, not reasons why he shouldn't be using an FE motor..... he also got his answers.
Summit offers an Edelbrock 7505 (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-7505/) @~$430.00

The new Edelbrock 2x4 is a nice offering but it only accepts the Carter based Edelbrock carbs. As long as your fine with that it's a non issue. Personally I think if they offered it to accept Holleys they'd be selling a ton more of them. Just another thing to think about in the overall picture.

I told Vic and his guys that if they made it for the 1800series carbs that they would sell hundreds of them but they made it (and others) so they can sell Edelbrock afb type carbs--the cobra folks would buy all they could make if they looked original----
And-----a 390 will respond better to stock type heads than the bigger engines will
The bench in my garage is a welding bench---the trophies and records are stuffed away somewhere around here--most current Hardcover books, magazines, other articals are generally put away after about a year to make room for newer ones----
over 40 years and from GA? did you ever go to Pheonix City Dragway in Alabama??? ran there a lot in 64 and 65

i live in ga. i'm taking care of my mother who is 84. i'm from missouri but have lived in va. for the last 35 years .ever heard of MIR OUTSIDE DC? 1973-1981.they have a strip in bama???? what you work for edelbrock? i'll stick with my offenhausers on the 2x4 you can mount holleys and carters. i have a bench too. it has a 1965 olds 400/375hp on it now which is being rebuilt by me its a new engine that was given to the local jr. college in nova. i bought it auction in 1977 now i'm got it torn down and going to build a chevy killer. i'm lookong for a cheevy body to put it in.and i'm just bought a 1962 lark(studebaker)which i plan to run at atlanta dragway next year.and guess what it going to be powered by a 304.5 cid studebaker v-8 R-4 engine. plus i'm driving the studebaker to the strip. i was just giving my take on overcarb.a stock engine, also weiand makes a 2x4 for the fe fords. it also takes holleys and carters. i also have a tunnel port heads and 2x4 intake for a 427.3 storage sheds of perforamce parts for every thing from a flathead studebaker 6-cylinder to a 500cid caddy. lots of ford stuff mostly y-block but not one cheevy part. are you a benchracer? i don't know you you don't know me. a benchracer is some one to talks about what a bad car they have and when they leave the speed shop they pull off in a ratty six/auto 4-door nova and leave a cloud of smoke(engine burning oil).edelbrock is not the only manifold company out there. they may be the biggest but so was general motors at one time.it may be a sbc world out there but my world is ford blue and studebaker black.have a good day.freedom is having all info in front of you.Last edited by hotrodstude; 07-31-2009 at 12:16 AM.
