    New guy on the block

    New guy here....
I always loved the F series form the 70's. What a great look.
Anyway, so I bought one the other day for $1000. Great deal for nearly pristine.
Has a 360Fe. never heard of it.... I'm a diesel guy, My truck is a diesel, my car is a diesel.... heck even my lawnmower is a diesel. I know absolutely nothing about gasoline engines.... the mysterious carb is a total enigma.
I considered sticking a 4cylinder cummins in this F100, but it just seemed downright unamerican.

I work/live offshore as the chief engineer of an ocean going tugboat. My license states I can work on anything under 4000hp. I mostly work with 2strokes. Detroit and EMD's. This small gas engine adventure will be very eyeopening, as I'm used to somewhat slower, larger engines with loads of torque and no horsepower. The EMD for instance, is a 900rpm beast, 645cubes per cylinder, 16 cylinders. NA it makes about 2000hp, and it doesn't even have intake valves. For power, I'm used to just a larger turbo, bigger aftercooler, and more fuel.... My engines normally have 16-1 all the way up to 21.5-1 compression, so I need to retool my thinking regarding engines here.

So to wrap up my slightly longwinded introduction, I'd like to take this 360ci engine and get as much power as I can reliably out of it. 400-500hp seems to be tops for a streetable engine. I'll be reading as much as I can, and making a plan on how to do this simply.
Feel free to throw out any book/literature suggestions to help me in this cause.

    Thanks!
    Drew

Welcome. Seems like you've gots lots of mechanical knowledge, so you are already off to a great start. Don't know much about the 360's but lots of great Fords out there capable of 400-500 hp. I also am partial to the early 70's F series trucks, and older ones too! Steve.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your project and foray into gasoline motors!

    Welcome Drew!

I'm a Chevy guy, but love those F-series pickups. Lot's of Ford guys here (and we all get along pretty well!) with ton's of knowledge. Hope you find that gas is as much "fun" as diesel. I know that you'll get a lot of encouragement in your built.

    Regards,
    Glenn
