352/390 Holley 570 or 670 street avenger
Hello,,New to the site and learning alot...Just bought my first Galaxie..62 with a 352 motor. Im looking for a 390 to put into it and I wasnt sure if I should go with a 570 or 670 cfm Holley Carb. I have the Edelbrock performer intake and now I need the carb. I dont plan on racing just an everyday driver with a little more performance. Its a stock motor so not sure if its going to make a difference...Thanks any advice, Dave

Hi Dave,
I like the smaller carb. I stock an OEM Ford 465 cfm carb for a guy who rebuilds old T-birds & Fords. Unless you install a big camshaft the big carb never opens it secondaries. Throttle response in better with the smaller carb too.Mike Forte

My old '79 F350 with a 460 was equipped with, I believe, a 500-525 cfm OEM Holley carb and until it just plan wore out at the shaft, worked just fine. I replaced it with a 600 cfm Edelbrock Performer which was fine as well and actually gave me a mpg+ better gas mileage. Big isn't always the way to go - that is unless you either need braggin' rights or are racing it 100% of the time.Dave W
I am now gone from this forum for now - finally have pulled the plug

summit has a nice modern version of the ford 4100 4-barrel carb, i put one on my 62 lark with an r-1 engine, a little adjustment and i'm ready to go.good throttle respomce and improvement in gasmilage, but stay on the small end.even with a 390. an r-1 engine is studebakers base hipo engine made in 1963-1964 years.289 cid(no its not a ford engine it's a stude v-8)
