Mopar tag on a 352?
I just purchased a 1966 F250 camper special with what looks to be the original motor, it has the number 352 stamped in front of the motor. I have been in the process of cleaning this thing up and i found a tag on the passenger side head, what do you guys think?

that's a rebuild tag.. possible the rebuilder did Mopars rebuilds for a dealer or somthing and used the Mopar rebuild tagYou don't know what you've got til it's gone

Looks like it's bored .030 over with a turned crank.

Strange things happen to cars and trucks in their lifetime, parts get swapped around, owners make mods, etc. I agree with Jay and Matt, it looks like it is a 30 over rebuild with a turned crank and it is possible the person who did the rebuild only had Mopar tags on hand to put the info on, so that is what was used. I'm pretty sure there was never an alliance of any sort between Ford and Chrysler, at least as far as 352 Fords of that era.
I've made some mods to cars and boats I've owned over the years that make me feel sorry for the next owner or couple of owners down the road. They will walk in thinking they have a 19xx something and find out the parts on the motor are no where near what the parts guy hands them. You will probably never know the history behind the Mopar tag unless you track down the owner from way back then.
I can't read the rebuild date in the picture, what does it say?

Probably not a 352..All FEs have that.. Years ago I convinced AHRA track officials that my 428 was a 352 because of that.I remember when hot rods were all home made.

While replacing the gas tank this weekend i found a checkbook from the late 1960's with all of the original owners info, looks like they lived in New mexico. it would be cool to get ahold of them and learn a little more about this truck. So it looks like its been bored .030 over? Thats good to know! So would that mean this motor is a 360?Last edited by jp_norris; 04-09-2010 at 12:59 AM.

It means you could have a 352, 360, or 390 engine, although I'd probably guess it's a 352 or 360. When you pull the engine down and micrometer the bores, if it has a 4.05" (4.08 w/ your overbore) bore with a 3.5" stroke, you have a 360, and 4.05(+.030) bore with a 3.78" stroke for a 390. A 352 will have a 4.00" original bore with a 3.50" stroke.
360's commonly had 410 pistons in them which sit way down in the bore giving a fairly low compression ratio in the ballpark of 7:1 - 7.5:1
Thank you Roger. .
