wow. This forum is really one of the friendlier places I've been, I'm really suprised there was a misunderstanding like this.
Most engine forums sadly have the typical 3-4 people who "know it all" and the rest sycophantic know it all's worshiping them.
Stick around, and chill out a bit, no one has a problem with you....
and please remember a desktop dyno, or even a real dyno are just a tool.
an example is my 445 ci Diesel. On a dyno it makes like 168hp in my 8000lb truck. Of course the 450ft lbs at 1400rpm makes driving it alot more fun than it sounds. (gonna get crazy and shift really high.... like 2200rpms!)
later later,
Drew

When I mentioned the possible ways how the engine could be used, I wasn't referring to the original poster. Those were just generic examples.
For a Friday night stoplight bandit, that wasn't going to be seeing many (if any) highway miles, I'd be thinking a set up as a 1/8 mile car would work nicely. 4.10-4.30 gears in the back, a loose convertor (if it's an automatic) and a suspension that will plant the back tires.
I may have missed it, but what body are we talking? Something small like a Falcon or Maverick, mid sized, or a big bruiser like a Galaxie?

ah 292 my engine,i love yblocks.i would get rid of the 390 or convert it to a 410,or find a 410 or 428,.the regular 428 was rated at 345hp.the cjs were335. ford finally started playing chevys game of underrating the power ratings.go for torque for a street engine.what body is this goung in??? it makes a difference.

Don't know the HP but my 57 Ranchero @ 4000 lbs ran a consistent 12:70
at 107 mph with a 060 over 390 back in 1975. Early HP block, 62 6090C heads (stock)
500-324 Ford cam, Dual quads and good headers. Old B&M super holeshot conv.
and 457 gears. This was over 35 yrs ago. And yes it was streetableA Ranchero is NOT an El Camino

I did a couple of FE motors and eclipsed 500 hp based on the information I had to work with. Following the posting of the build(s), I was informed by Barry at Survival Motorsports that the Edelbrock heads would not flow nearly what I was using in the DynoSim program. I guess they will make well over 400 hp, but you will need more head to get to the 500 mark.
