intake manifold replacement
How many man hours does it take to remove the necessary equippment on the engine to get to the gasket. Does the distributor really have to come out also. The hours our taking off and reassembly and replacing fluids. Oh I forgot to mention DOing it right . Larry

Depends on the engine. 6 cylinder easy, V8s not so easy. Some downright hard. Like a Ford FE!Livin' on Route 66

Not a bad job if you're in the mood.at least with hyd lifter you don't need to
adjust the valves. Just mark the dist with a punch and on the intake. I hope your
oil pump drive stays intact. If it's a Bird maybe have to take those braces off
to the shock towers. Two guys setting back on would be nice maybe 3. 2 to set
it on and 1 to guide it in place. Replace the by-pass hose for sure.
Maybe 3 or 4 hrs taking your time. Don't know if u have air etc.A Ranchero is NOT an El Camino

The vehicles that I've had with an FE plus ones that I worked on as a mechanic I found it much easier to do the job if I removed the hood. There is just no way to do it "gracefully" without being able to straddle the engine or even use a chain fall or cherry picker. While you might be reluctant to remove the hood as it would screw up its alignment, all you have to do is to drill an 1/8" hole in each hinge flange and into the hood bracket then when it goes back on, use a piece of drill rod for realignment.Dave W
