Cam selection, please help
I'am planning on re-ringing, re-bearinging and re-sealing my 390 FE. I'm making a "wish list" and need to choose a cam. Being a dummy on the cam chosing thing I need some help.
The engine:
'64 390 Super Marauder 300hp
Stock intake
C1AE stock heads 71.2 - 74.2
10.2 comp.
stock exhaust manifold
dual 2.5 exhaust, H pipe
The car:
'64 Mercury Colony Park
4500 lbs
C6 trans
Stock converter
3.5 rear
Stock tires
Fuel Octane Rating here in the Netherlands is 95
This car is my dailydriver but I want to make some more power with the new cam. Looking for more off-idle power. Maybe change the intake, if this would help a lot (but getting a intake shipped to Amsterdam, the Netherlands is $$$$). A loopy idle would be nice.
I filled out two cam request forms, Comp and Lunati:
Compcams recomended:
Xtreme Energy 33-238-4 cams. I have listed the specs below.
PART NO. 33-238-4
01 INTAKE MASTER 5432
02 EXHAUST MASTER 5202
03 ENGINE FB XE262H-10
04 GRIND NUMBER FB XE262H-10
INT EXH
05 HYDRAULIC Y/N YES 14 DUR @.050 218 224
INTAKE EXHAUST 15 LOBE LIFT .2980 .3010
06 VALVE ADJUSTMENT HYD HYD 16 ROCKER RATIO 1.73 1.73
07 MAX GROSS VALVE LIFT .513 .519
08 DUR @ .006 TAPPET LIFT 262 275 17 LOBE SEPARATI 110.0
18 ADVANCE 4
09 VALVE TIMING OPEN CLOSE 19 VALVE SPRINGS 926-16
@ .006 10 INT 25 57
11 EXH 72 23
12 THESE SPECS ARE FOR CAM(S) INSTALLED
@ 106.0 INTAKE CENTERLINE
I recommend the 834-16 lifters and the 926-16 springs with this cam. We do carry a cam and lifter kit and a K kit for this cam. If you have any questions, let me know.
Lunati recomended:
Bracket Master II 00053 223/223 duration @.050,.514/.514 lift 112/108 LSA/CL, rpm range is 1500-5000.
Please let me know what you think. Other brand recommendations are more then welcome.
Many thanks, Ramon
