whats involved in intake gasket change
I own a 62 ford thunderbird and I took it to a ford dealership. The service manager indicated to me that the radiator fluid wouldnt have to be drained since the intake is high up. From every forum I saw is that the radiator fluid gets drained. Should I call back and indicate to drain the green stuff could I be wrong. What would the possibilites if the fluid would get mixed into the oil. I need a deal explatation on this subject matter. Larry. This is putting in a new gasket on each side and siliconing the front and back.

Well, if they are a Ford dealer they should have some experience with this, but also the car is a 62, so maybe they really aren't. I think most of us would drain the coolant if we were doing this job ourselves just to be safe. The thing is they may not be crazy about you calling them back and telling them how to do a repair that is in their shop. I know we wouldn't have taken kindly to it when I worked for a marine repair facility. We hated it when someone brought their next door neighbor "expert" in who tried to tell us we should be doing something a different way.
I think I would let them do their job and if they get coolant into the oil they will surely know enough to drain it and refill. (I would hope) When you pick up the car, pull the dipstick and see what you see.
