if it is a stock ford truck it is probably a Np 435 I think, i THINK they use T-98 then Np435 then T-18, I am not the authority on this though.Looking for a '67-'75 Ford 4x4, 4 speed pickup

I liked Birchymm's comment earlier in the thread. The cool thing is being able to do what you can now, and redo it later. I haven't done anything with a 360, but if it's the 4.05 bore, it can make a 390 or 410, as stated above.
But to encourage you, when I was in high school (back when Richard Nixon was in the White House and Uncle Sam was giving away all expense paid trips to Southeast Asia), a friend was given his older sister's '68 Camaro. Actually, she skipped on it, and his dad had to buy it out, so my friend ended up with it as his wages for a year of so on the family farm. Anyway, 327, 2bbl, three speed floor shift, open 10-bolt with 3.08 gears. Not a speedball.
He saved his money, bought a good cam, Edelbrock Torker manifold (at Monkey Wards), Holley 3310 780cfm carb, and a set of Hooker headers. Oh, and a Turbo350 trans that he had kitted to shift hard. It was about the fastest thing in our school, and cost him about half of what he made driving tractor for a neighbor the summer before our senior year.
About two years later I bought my Shelby, and he wasn't the fastest of our friends anymore. He set out to remedy that.
He pulled the engine out of the car this time , bought angle-plug heads, matched a cam and intake for an 8500 rpm target, added the Holley 850, had the thing balanced and blueprinted, swapped for a 12-bolt posi rear end with 4.56 gears, and had the Turbo350 done again. We never got around to racing, but the gears might have got him the lead back, and that engine was sweet. The header spit at idle, the heavy lope, the sound of the loud turbo mufflers echoing off the buildings downtown. Cost him about half of another summer's earnings, but he just kept after it. Nearly 35 years later he still has the car in the equipment shed on his farm, and his daughter is trolling for it.
Shows you can start small (I think he just did the trans, intake, headers, and carb first), and go on from there. Have a great time with it. I know it's over a year since the thread started, so maybe you can give an update on how its gone...Tim -

extra help??
New to this site and like what I see. I just picked up a '66 F100 witha fully rebuilt 352 and 'grannied' four speed. it's all stock except for the wheels and (pretty grungie) exhaust/glass packs. I"m thinking of keeping it pretty stock (rrrrrrright), but would like to let the motor breathe a little bit better. I'm wondering what headers woudl fit a 352 truck and what intake and carb would be good?? I"ve seen Elderbrock has an intake and 600cfm carb, but I"m not seen any headers.
Thoughts??? Also, what other tranmission would be good to swap out from the grannied four speed, or would that even matter???
Thanks
and forgive since I'm new to this hot rod thing, but what does FE stand for???

Hedman, Hooker and Thrush and many other manufactures makes headers for your truck. (FE's in F100 to F250 in your year.) Check them out in Summit or another Hi-po catalog.Last edited by Oldf100fordman; 03-27-2005 at 10:26 PM.

WHOA!!!!!
Two posts from two different people within 10 minutes!?!?! That's great!!
Thanks. I"ll check those three brands out, just saw that Hedman has some headers, so I"ll wait for all my new catalog requests to show up and starting adding the dollars.
Ford Edsel......got it.
Thanks guys.......can't wait to start in on Great White. Ideas for paint, engine work and maybe a bit of lowering have already met with 'approval' from my younger siblings.

Dont know if you have made any final decisions as to where you are taking this project. But I am considering parting out my p/u. If you want details i may have parts of interest and am close to you geographically. Power steering/brakes. Sounds like you are wanting a new rear differntial?....gotta rebuilt c-6, and dyno proven engine...

Your 360 has flat-top pistons that are the same as 390 high comp. pistons. Swap in a 390 crank and rods (if your block and pistons are good) . A four-speed overdrive makes a good swap, especially if your truck is as low speeded as you say. They were factory optional in the early '70's. Its a Ford top loader style tranny. A bit of a jump from second to third, but a 390 has enough torque to overcome that. I have one in a '79 Mustang with a 351W and it works great.
