Factory Aluminum Intake manifold
Just curious which vehicles and engines these may have been on. It has a Part No of C7AE, which equates to a 67 engine. The guy i bought it from says its from a Pickup 390, but it seemed strange to me that a pickup would have one, unless special order or something. I just bought the entire engine, 390, off the floor, and I am trying to ID all the components. The parts have IDs ranging from 63 to 68! So either Ford didn't mind using components from past years, or this is a Frankenstein engine. Neither of which bother me too much as long as it all bolts together the same! Any thoughts?

I am not positive but I believe that to be a 428 Police Interceptor intake. If I can dig out my ford FE parts guide around here I can find out.Duane S

I spent an hour looking through my house and could not find my ford parts indentification book. But I did find my Ford Performance book by Pat Ganahl (copyright 1979). In it he does not list a C7AE number for an intake. He does list a C8AZ-9424-H alum for a 428 PI. Doesn't seem like I helped you a bit. Sorry.Duane S

I could be wrong on the number, I had about 30 running around in my head, I'll come back tomorrow and post the correct one. i'm also gonna want to ID my heads and the extra block I got. I know one is a 390, but the other is about 50 lbs lighter and looks alot like my 352. We'll see

I just reallized that the number in the Ford Performance book is a part number and not , repeat not, a casting number. So, if your intake does have the casting number C7AE it would have to have come from a 67 or 68 Galaxie (using Vikings system from one of your earlier threads). This would mean it is a 428 PI intake as that is the only motor in the full sized Ford with an Alum Intake for those years. Hope this helps.Last edited by Oldf100fordman; 04-20-2004 at 02:09 PM.

Reading Casting NumbersReading Casting Numbers
Casting numbers tell when a part was ORIGINALLY designed and what car it was
ORIGINALLY designed for. This does not mean that the part was not used on other
cars. For example, casting number C8OE-9430-D is an exhaust manifold for a 428
CJ Fairlane; however, it was also used on 428 CJ Mustangs.
Example:
The breakdown of casting number C8OE-9430-D is easy using the charts below:
C = Decade of 1960
8 = Year of the decade (8th year of 1960), 1968
O = Fairlane Car line / Manufacture code
E = Engine engineering department
9430 = Basic number for an exhaust manifold
N = Design change
Casting Number Breakdown Charts
Decade of Manufacture:
A = 1940
B = 1950
C = 1960
D = 1970
E = 1980
Year of Decade
The year of the decade is determined by adding a number (0-9) to the letter of
the decade. Example: C6 would be 1966, D0 would be 1970, D1 would be 1971.
Car Line/ Manufacture Codes
A = Galaxie
D = Falcon (60-69)
F = Outside USA, Trans Am racing
G = Comet / Montego
J = Industrial
M = Mercury
O = Fairlane / Torino
P = Autolite / Motorcraft
R = Rotunda
S = Thunderbird
T = Truck
V = Lincoln (61 - current)
Z = Mustang
Engineering Departments
A = Chassis
B = Body
E = Engine
F = Engine accessories
J = Autolite (67-72)
P = Automatic transmission
R = Manual transmission
W = Axle
X = Muscle parts program
Y = Lincoln / Mercury service parts
Z = Ford service parts
Basic Number
These identify the part, such as 6090 being a cylinder head or 9430 being an
exhaust manifold.
Design Change
A Basic part is made to fit many applications. Example:
DOZZ-7528-C is a clutch bar for a 390/428
DOZZ-7528-D is a clutch bar for a 351 W
DOZZ-7529-E is a clutch bar for a 302 Boss
Reading Casting Dates
Casting dates:
Casting dates show the exact day, month and year a certain part was made or
cast. The typical casting date looks like "6M08".
Breaking down a casting date:
6 = The year of the decade. "6" for 1976.
M = The letter of the month. (December)
08 = The day of the month. (8th)
First year month codes:
ABCDEFGHIJKLM
JanFebMarAprMayJunJulAugN/ASepOctNovDec
Second year month codes:
NOPQRSTUVWXYZ
JanN/AFebMarAprMayJunJulAugSepOctNovDec
How do casting numbers appear?
Most casting numbers are stamped into the part itself, other have the number
molded on the part. Some casting numbers can be ink stamped while others are
printed on paper, which is then wraped around the part.

Ah, found the book " The production 428 C.J. aluminum intake manifold ( Ford Part No. C6AZ-9424-H , casting number C7AE-9425-F ) of course it will bolt up to any 352 - 428 ford wedge motorLast edited by viking; 04-20-2004 at 02:50 PM.

And the parts you found on the engine from 63-68 should be no problem. Most engines have been "gone through" at one time or another. Just sort out everything to be sure it workable and dig in. G.

Plus just because a part has a casting number of a certain year it is not to be confused with a part number. a lot of Ford part casting numbers were used over a bunch of years.Duane S

Thanks F100, Vike, and 428. The casting number on the intake is C7AE-9425-F, so at least I know what that is. I'm still having a prob with the block ID. I found the casting number in the usual spot and all it says is C6AE- and no number after that. I just bought these two blocks, one with a crank one is complete. The guy I bought them from said they're both 390s but one is about 50 pounds heavier so i'm trying to absolutely ID them and the cranks. One block has no casting number and says 352 in a few spots, but I've been told that most FE's say that. I'll keep looking......starting to get a little frustrating

Hmmm
So just for giggles, how much would this thing be worth if I decided to Ebay it? Seems like it would be a highly sought after part, somewhat. I have no plans to sell it, I was just curious. Some of the old car guys around here think it would go for over $400, but that seemed high since you can buy an after market Edelbrock for under $300. Mine is in great shape, looks like it was blasted and powder coated, OR just stock clean, who knows. Any thoughts?

A nice clean PI intake sells for $300-450. Or and as Richard stated whatever someone who really needs it will pay!!! I've seen them sell for $500 on Ebay. Good luck with the block Id. keep at it you will sort it out. Try www.fordfe.com to help you ID that block! G.
