block is back!
Just got my block back from machine shop. Bored .030 over, align honed mains, magnafluxed, cam bearings installed, freeze plugs.etc. Also had rods checked, pistons pressed on, weight matched, new rod bolts, main and head studs installed. I can't remember now if I can use a 428 crank with my 390 rods to make a 410 or if I have to have 428 rods. Any advice? Btw, shop said I shouldn't have any problem with 100-150 hit of nitrous with my rods or pistons. They seemed reasonably sure that if I kept the nos at this or a lower level I wouldn't need much else....

FE Series Engines
332 (4.00" bore / 3.00" stroke)
352 (4.00" bore / 3.50" stroke)
361 (4.05" bore / 3.50" stroke)
390 (4.05" bore / 3.78" stroke)
406 (4.13" bore / 3.78" stroke)
410 (4.05" bore / 3.98" stroke)
428 (4.13" bore / 3.98" stroke)
The 410's, found in early Mercurys, is a 428 crank in a 390 block (or 332/352/361 block)
Get 360 by dropping a 352 crank in a 332-390 block.
Keep in mind the 332 and 352 used a 6.54" rod, while the others used a 6.48" rod.

You can use the 428 crank with the 390 rods. Just balance the whole deal before assembly. G.

Thanks to both of you. The 428 crank I now have was cut .010 on the mains, and I am wondering if this will significantly weaken things or not. Not much I can do about it as the budget monster (wife) is about to choke me over this thing. You may never get permission, but you will always be forgiven. hehe

btw- I found out you can get c4ae-c5ae & c6ae heads rebuilt from auto zone for $149.00 a pair. May make a cheap way to get some proven heads to port for the street.....

The crank at .010 is just fine. You can go to .060 max with bearings to match. Thats a good deal on the heads thanks for the tip. G.

Rod bolts
Just a suggestion,
I'm assuming you installed arp or aftermarket rod bolts. If not IMO you need to invest a few $$$ into some good rod bolts!! Would hate to see yout throw away a lot of $$$ because or a rod bolt. You will need to get the rods resized after installing aftermarket rod bolts. All of the FE's I have built in the past had aftermarket rod bolts, it is mandatory on any performance engine.
For some detailed FE information you may want to visit www.fordfe.com They will lead you in the right direction.

I misquoted the Advance Auto thing ffr. The heads are 149.00 per
head. Still might be a good deal.....
