Harmonic Balancer
While changing carbs on my built 390 we noticed that the harmonic balancer was showing wear. It was wobbling. Attempted to find a OEM replacement. Unable to do so and didn't want any junkyard gamble. I ordered a Street Damper form CNC. The crankshaft fit was good but the overall diameter of the damper was too big about 1/4 to1/2 in. Has anyone had this problem and if so what's the fix?Deo Vindice

Harmonic Balance
There is a flange exiting from the left front if the block as you are looking at the front of the block. I believe it is a pointer for the timing marks on balancerDeo Vindice

I had a similar problem with a new timing cover on my Fast Burn 385 crate motor. I needed to change the cover to install a short water pump. I just got a universal pointer from Summit. I'm sure the balancer is correct. You just need to improvise a timing pointer.Jack

Sounds like it had a 7 inch dampner on it and the new one is an 8 inch, just cut the old one off and run to Autozone or Parts America or such and by a chrome bolt on pointer, tey're about 3-4 bucks...

Damper Dudes, 5509 Cedars Rd #2, Redding, CA 96001, 1-800-413-2673 is a great place to get your original damper rebuilt just right. They did one for my '69 428CJ, and I've got one for a '66 410 I need to take up to them.
For the CJ, I didn't have a decent core, so they provided one for me. Just my nickel's worth, but I'll use them for the F100 and the '57 Delray.Tim -
