I know quite a few cobra's running chevy engines and one running a buick V6 turbo GN engine. We use all different make parts in the cobra's also. Jeep and buick master cyls are some of the common non ford parts but there are many others some use for performance and safety. Heck some even use a new style VW turnsignal indicator for self canceling signals and highbeam flashers. No matter what it is we build and drive we all share the same passion for the hobby. That's why we are all here...that and some lighthearted Ford vs Chevy ribbing also LOL, G.
p.s. my wife drives a chevy! :-)

I have a 1976 Ford F100 with a 390. The 390 was originally in a 1967 Fairlane GT. It is all stock (335 advertised HP), and it runs great. The engine, before going into my truck was in our 32' 5 window. I am building a 351W right now to go into the truck, and plan to put the 390 in a Cobra replica.

I have a 1970 Ford LTD Country Squire Station Wagon which came with a 390 V8 2V. I replaced the engine with a 66 .040 over 428 block and 63 406 6V heads, 390 crank, 428 cast pistons, rebuilt rods, and then balanced. Block decked and align honed. The heads have been ported and polished some by a reliable performance shop. Hardened exhaust seats, SS valves, performance valve springs and retainers along with Crane Anti Pump up lifters and a set of MR 427 adjustables rocker arm assemblies. Blue printed Melling oil pump, CJ windage tray, CJ oil pan w/ 3/4" Canon oil pickup. FPP timing gear set. 66 428 PI intake w/a universal replacement 735CFM Holley 4150 carb. All this in front of my modified C6 and replacement 3:50 to 1 Detroit Tru Trac rearend. I'm running a Blue Racer Wolverine cam with a 554 lift I/E. Slower than some out of the hole but mid range to 6000++ in great. I've been working on getting at least 100MPH in the quarter. Times are another thing. This is alot of weight to get moving while still using all the creature comforts such as A/C, P/S,
P/B,et. The body is rust free and bondo free. Still has the factory white paint and woodgrain siding. The woodgrain and woodgrain trim is in need of restoration and will someday get finished. In the mean time I enjoy driving it to work and shopping. I will retire in the near future and look forward to traveling in the wagon around the US.

'68 F100
My FE project is a '68 F100 pickup with a very nasty brush repaint inside and out that I will have to address when I finally get it on its feet again. It currently has a very nice 360 4bbl with a fresh rebuild (I do mean fresh, less than 100 miles in the last 8 years) with a fist-sized hole in the left rear side of the block. The guy that I bought it from just had it rebuilt in February of '97, put straight water in the radiator and block, and promptly let it freeze in March of '97. Needless to say, the block broke from the ice that formed in it.
I bought the truck from a friend at work (grandson of the owner) and hauled it home. In August of the same year, I bought a badly wrecked'69 LTD with a Y-code 390 as the donor vehicle for the F100. The 390 is still in the LTD, and I start it every couple of months, but I've made no headway on this project. The 390 only has about 92,000 on it, and is as clean as they come on the inside. The motor oil was clean the first time I drained it, and has been every time since. The thing has absolutely no valve noise, and I've never detected any smoke at the exhaust. Overall, it's about as solid an engine as I've ever owned. I really am looking forward to the day I can get to this project, as I think the 390 will be a good choice of engine for the truck.
I currently have an Edelbrock Performer RPM and a Holley 700 double-pumper that I am going to put on the 390. Other plans include a cam change (I want a lumpy idle) and headers. The F100 has a C6 and a 9 inch rear, but I don't know what ratio. The truck itself is rust free and straight as an arrow; has AC and power and good trim. It just has an awful paint job. I think the color it originally was is called Boxwood Green (kinda medium greenish-gray) and that's the color I will repaint it. I also have a good black dashpad to replace the cracked one that's currently in the truck. Lastly I have a set of late-model aluminum Ford van wheels (15x8) that I will mount BFG T/As on for that musclecar look. The wheels and engine mods and a good dual exhaust system are the only upgrades from stock appearance and condition that I intend to perform.
And that, is my FE project.

Yeah, those Chebbies are entertaining. I liked the shocked look on the college boy's face last fall when my stock ElectraGlice (known as the Hog Whisperer with those quiet pipes) ran off and left Daddy's SS396 Guess he never did the horsepower-to-weight calculations.
It's all good - but I guess I shoulda put the extra FE in my '57 Chevy, to even things out and maybe make the rustbucket go fast...Tim -

New to the forum . . . I'm running an FE390 in my 67 Galaxie XL Convertible.
This is my first project car, and my experience amounts to jack. So I'll be relying heavily on this forum and other material I can find.Regards,
