Hey G, I really want one of Shelby's new aluminum FE blocks for the Ranchero.........Thought maybe if all the Blue Oval guys would take up a collection for me.......I would imagine they are in the 7K bucks range. Got any sources????

Yea you and me both on the Shelby block. $7k is about right and Keith Craft and Precision Oil Pumps are a few guys who buy them in bulk. Have you seen the new Pond motorsports block? Robert Pond sells to KC also and has an iron and aluminum 427 blocks. $6k as I remember in aluminum. He is doing a bunch of heads also. Hey can I join in on the collection fund? I need one too. Maybe we can get a " two for one" deal ! LOL!! G.

Haven't seen one of the Pond peices yet, heard they were very nice. Sure, join the fund. I need to sell some of my stuff and part with the big bucks to get the really first rate stuff I want. Sure do hate parting with toys, guess I have to decide how bad I want to have the trick stuff.

Yeap, Dave and FFR, I wish I could afford the exotic stuff too. I'd love to put one of those alunimun 427's in my truck just take care of all the Chevy nuts back here. My ol 390's doing pretty good at that. Wish there was a strip close so as I could really take care of them. Street racing ain't cool.

That's good new, Duane. I guess I've been known to participate in a bit of Saturday night street racing, too. Maybe it's not kewl, but it sure does settle "discussions" on horsepower.

I'm thinking I might sell some of my other toys and pick up some of the exotic stuff this time. Now that the Ranchero is full framed (and soon to be caged) I have the weight down so much on the car (truck?) that it would almost be a shame to put that big heavy cast iron motor and heads in it!!! Have to think about it for awhile......

Dave that Ranchero sounds like it's going to be a monster! I can see why your looking for big cubes. I have not heard much feedback wise from the guys running the Pond blocks. Guess they are just too new but all are running good so far. I used to street race heavily back in to 70's when I was to young to know better. We never raced for money but for bragging. A few times for pink slips though. I'd always give the loser first shot to buy his car back. Cha-ching! G.

......The only exotic stuff I can afford for my FE aint anymore.. Tri-Power, short cast iron headers and a dual point.

FFR428.... I used to street race heavily back in to 70's

Dave Severson.....I've been known to participate in a bit of Saturday night street racing, too.

    SnakeHerder......Yeah, those Chebbies are entertaining.

Neat stuff, Denny !! I still have a couple sets of 4V FE pickup heads, a few complete 390's, and a 410 Merc motor that I'm saving for a project I may or may not ever get around to building !! I have a fairly nice '67 Galaxie that I am considering putting an FE in to sell for some extra $$$$ for my Ranchero parts.

Right now all I'm technically running is a couple of 352's in my two 64 Galaxies. The black sheep, uncle no one talks about of the FE family. I have two 390 blocks and heads sitting in my garage calling to me to build them and stick them in my Gals. thanks to this forum I have also identified that I have a Police Interceptor Aluminum intake for one of them. Ones a complete engine and the other is just a block and crank, no pistons. They will both need to be gone over, bored, fluxed etc etc. Not sure exactly where I'm gonna go with them right now. I'm thinking one I will build basically stock(with a little over bore) and put that in the Yellow four door, for family cruisin. the other I will utilize my Intake and maybe do some head work and such and make the other Gal into a little more of a drag car, so I can leave my Chevy and Mopar co-workers wondering where I went. That car also has the swing away steering, power steering, power brakes, which isn't neccessarily rare on most cars but a little harder to find on 64 Gals. Of course I'll probably find something else to spend my money on this summer, my wife always seems to find sumthin

I've got a 'freshened' 352 in my 66 F100. and I have no idea what I'm talking about which is why I joined this forum. Not sure how I could 'hot rod' this truck up though. still have the granny farm 'four' speed and the shifting throw doesn't seem to lend itself to racing.

I'm thinking that some headers and new exhaust first, but that's purely for sound since it's got the 2 barrel original carb. been toying with an edelbrock intake and carb. but then we get back to the transmission............

anyway........something to start on before I begin the search for my dream. 1966 mustang fastback.

Nice thing about the FE is that everything bolts to everything else! You can bolt the dual quad (carb) setup on your 352 if you want! Might cost you some cash, but possible. As I recall, you can also bore out the 352 and turn it into a 360 or 390 pretty easily. Overbore, dual quad, headers, and some port work and you got yourself one fast pickup. Course the money will flow.......

    Really?!?!?

So I could have that thing bored out to a 390 status?? wouldn't that thin that block walls or something?? Again, I have no idea about anything hotrod/motor/tranny/anything, so I figured this truck would be a good learner.

I am looking at some Hooker Headers and some type of exhaust since the current glasspacks and pipes seem to be mighty rusted.

I'm wondering if the original trans is still a useable option if the motor is kicked up???

    anyhoo, that's guys.............

No, it wouldn't thin the block to much. That's only .050 over. But you would have to get a 390 crank and rods to go with the pistons. For a 360, you'd just bore and get the pistons.

that 4speed will be just fine!!! those things are bullet proof.... at most it might need a rebuild.... but other than that, its a good tranny.... and if you decided to scrap that 4speed.... I'll take it it would go nicely in my 66 mustang fastback

You want to put a truck 4 speed in your Horse??? I believe he is talking about the one with the shifter coming out the top of the transmission, not a toploader. The truck transmissions are huge, weigh a ton, and don't shift worth a flip.
