haha yeah i was joking..... i wouldn't mind bolting that up to my 390 in my 69 galaxie though.... that car is just a big ass boat anyways.... never really been a race car... and i wouldn't expect it with a curb weight of 3800+ lbsjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

Mr. Wizard!
How do you use those valve covers in a '70? I had a set on my 428CJ, but they had zero clearance to the brake master cylinder, and hit it when the engine torqued over, even with new mounts. Went back to the low, finned aluminum stock covers, and put the Cobra covers on the pickup engine.
I assume you lost the center NACA scoop on the hood, since the blower would raise things a bit too high and require a power bubble. Any photos of how you treated that?
Should have lost a ton of weight off the nose with that setup. The intake alone would be about a fifty lb. reduction - if I hadn't been going for keeping all the numbers the same, I'd have pursued the aluminum motor. Almost went with the heads anyway, but Shelby's man in Gardena said they weren't set up for the Mustang exhaust manifolds. But that was in 1997, and the blocks were just out at that point.
Cool setup. Good thing is that, pricey as they are, they aren't much worse than trying to blueprint a new short-block with all the right stuff and restore a ratty old set of C8OE-N heads.Tim -

Tim,
We did away with the Valve cover problem when we went with a Billet -twin Master Cylinder with 2-3/4" pistons and had to use "NO" Power Booster.
We also had a custom set of Headers made with 2 3/8" tubes with a 4" collector ,going to a 3" exhaust system, going back to a 3" x pipe with custom made 3" exhaust bypass flanges,so we can mount a pair of Motorized exhaust bypass doors so we can just hit a switch on the console and open the exhaust,up to 3" to let that .687 lift, roller cam work!!! A 3" exhaust all the way back to the Shelby rear plenum. Did you know that the out side of the alum. rear plenum ,where the exhaust pipe goes into it ,is 3" outside
diameter!!!!!! We just bevelled or tapered the inside of the Round Plenum frange to increase air flow out the rear baffle and then installed a 3" exhaust Coupling over the rear ,round exhaust plenum.
One more thing,as you can see in the front end Picture, we changed a few things! Don't know if you can see from the rear end picture but our car has a
Full coil over,36" ladder bar setup, with a ProStreet Anti-roll bar with a tract locator ,Narrowed Currie 9+,Narrower 4" each side ,40 Spline Axles witha 3.25 Detroit locker, using Myier fender flares, we are running Hoosier 15.5" wide x 15" ProStreets on God father Billet mags, 5" on the front! Full 2x4" square box frame with Frame stiffners like the Shelby "ELEANOR car but ours are 2" thick wall tubing and welded in .
The fake Gas tank bottom holds a 32 Gal. ATL fuel cell, 2-opitma Batterys & a 10LB. NOS bottle, a rear Trunk "Metal Divider" Fire wall was made also! 2-1/2" Gas lines, Feed & return, run under car!
A Barry Grant Blower Fuel Pump & Filter were mounted under bottom of car by the left rear Axle Housing!
The Rear Shelby Gas filler was relocated to the center top of the" Right "rear fender using a modern style, flip open, gas filler lid that blends in with the top of the fender.
The Shelby Fiberglass front end was made into a 1-piece,flip-top,front end like the old Cobra Daytonas. The Flip-top,front end will raise & lower with 2-linear Actuators! We custom built a Crowl ram Scoop, using the Shelby Style Hood Design ,but about 7" taller. We did use the center Naca Scoop in this design also along with making the Rear Hood Scoops useable by letting the engine compartment air ,exiting from both sides of the rear Scoop. A Tach Shift lite was mounted in the back of the blower hood scoop also to keep the factory dash cover intact. We are installing a full Stainless Steel fire wall, with stainless steel inner fender splash panels!
The interior will have Shelby Series 1 front seats with the rear vert seats being from a 05 Mustang Convertible (including 05 rear seat belts!
The Shelby Roll bar was made usable by cutting off the bolt -on flanges, and welding thick wall tubbing to the floor pan,and using a 3-point attachment setup to the top of the roll bar tube,it will all hide under the rear seat side panels.
We installed Shelby Fastback Front seat
belts & Reels to the roll bar also! Rear seats will be in the same leather and color as the front seats! A console will be custom built and done in matching leather.
Gauges are Autometer -a 5" tach and a 5",200 MPH speedo with the rest of the gauges being 2 5/8".
The motor also will get a Billet alum. Dove Purge tank, CSI electric water pump, 200 AMP ALT.,Billet Mustang II Power steering Pump & Rack.A custom made Dual-Quad Holley,Nitrous Oxide setup,a 4" output ProCharger, Race only, 1500 CFM. Blower, with a custom
2" Cog Built Pulley system built by Black Mountain Machine just for our Motor!
Tranny is a TKO 600 5-Speed with a Lakewood bell housing, Clutch Cable setup with a twin disk,Kevlar/Kevlar
Custom built clutch!

The casting numbers and date codes off the block, heads, and intake should tell all. Post them here, betcha FFR can nail down what it is for you.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I had a look today for the numbers pretty hard when it is still in the car but this is what i found.
heads C4AE-G
On the drivers side of the block or your passenger side i found this in this lay out
5H
then in raised square J4
22
then under that C5AE-A
the inlet had this CC5AE 84258 but they were a bit hard to read it also had made in canada on it.
hope some one can make sense of this.
Thanks
Dave

Gal390, your block is a 390 if it has a 4.05 bore. I also have that casting number listed for a 330HD from a truck but think safe to say your 390. The heads also are 64-65 352/390 heads. You can check the date codes on the block and heads etc... to see if they are original to each other. The CC5AE you say is on the inlet do you mean intake or thermostat housing? The "CC" is for a canadian part as I understand.

Thanks for that help i do have an id plate in the engine bay but in my book it says inside the front door. The one it shows in the book is nothing like mine and any writting that was on there has worn off so i just have a lot of numbers that dont me a lot.I think the id might have been pput on by ford australia. That number was on the intake just in front of the carbie along with the made in canada.
Thanks

I ve got a 352 truck block in my 1916 ford roadster pickup, I found the body in 1951 (Real Steel) and built it in high school with an olds then changed to a hipo 390. 3 2's isky cam with 1.5 rockers, decked block, balanced milled and ported heads 11 to 1 compression Dual point dist with reworked curve. It would rev to 7500. With the low octane gas we have now I swapped a 8.5 to 1 truck long block with a Mustang gta cam. It is streetable but just doesn't sound as good as the old 390.timothale

I have a 332 FE, replacement motor sources here in the UK. It keeps the old Fairlane moving nicely most of the time. I have even added an LPG kit to it.

HI. I'm new here. My name's Sam and I live in Port Huron Mich. I never heard of FEs untill 3 days ago when I went to the junk yard to find a motor to put in a from-scratch car I want to build. I had heard of 427s before but never heard anythind called FE. Heck, I'm not much of a mechanic, but you can all feel safe now because I only repair motorized and pneumatic valve operators in nuclear power plants arount the USA for a living. I got a 98 cadillac and tryed to change the head gaskets, but Northstars really suck so I GAVE the car to the neighbor to get it out of my sight last wednesday. I prefer engines with carberators that dont look like they have spagetti all over the top.
My FE is a 360, and all dates point to an all original '68. Has C8AE-H heads. needs an intake and carb, and most everything else on top. I just drove 90 miles each way from my home this afternoon and picked up a automatic trans (C1AP-7006-A) that was taken out of a '62 Gallaxy last week. Now I can bolt it to my tore down block and decide where to put the mounts in the frame that I want to build. ALso, I think I'll do the oil mods, and have it done .030 over. don't know if I want to put a new 390 crank in it or not. want a 4bbl intake and carberator though. The guy i got the trans from has a '63 Gallaxy 9-inch rear end that he wants $200 for, but I can get a truck 9-inch for $100 so I don't know which I want. He says the car one is rarer and better and has a smaller bolt pattern. I'll have to read more on that before I fork over $200. Maybe I'll post some pictures as I build this car if anyones interested. I'm just building it for fun and to screw around about town with, not to race or anything like that. maybe just spin the tires and make the little kids smile. (has to be shiney and loud too). My nephew seems really interested in helping me with it to, so thats pretty cool. any suggestions on building it are welcome, but i can't really afford $400 or $500 parts right now, so I'll do what I can. I have summers and winters off from the nukes so I have lots of time to screw around with it.
Sam
