Drag 400
My dad has a customer that is building a 1/4 mile '72 comet. He is on a budget, but wants cubes. He was going to go with a stroker, but couldn't afford it. My dad came up with the idea of building a 400 with 4bbl cleveland heads on it. However, NOBODY makes a perf. piston for a 400. Has anyone ever done this before? I'd like to hear any ideas.

Problem with a 460 is space and weight. That Comet/Maverick engine compartment is tight even with a 302 in it. I knew a fellow that swapped a 351 Cleveland into one and he had to cut and re-enforce the shock towers to do it. A 351 Windsor should be close to a bolt in. Plenty of speed equipment available also. If he is on a tight budget, why not start with a 351W with the idea of stroking sometime in the future as moeny is available. He could get the chassis working right and should be able to run pretty decent. Then build it more in the future.
Now if he has funds to swap out the front suspension to a Mustang II design he could go with the 460 as Richard suggested.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

These are all good ideas, but the 400 is final. What I'm asking is if anybody knows anything or anyone pertaining to building a brute of a 400.
