    ignition or fuel problem??

     



    I am looking to purchase a 95 Mustang GT that has had a 351 swapped in the place of the factory 302. The swap has been done for a long time so the problem is not from the swap. It has 24 lb injectors and several mods done to it as well. You can be going down the road and it will act like it is going to die but before the engine dies, it will catch back up and go like it should. I have been told it is the pick up in the distributor and somebody else said it sounds like its the fuel pump. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

    I didn't ask him about the check engine light. I will check that.

    Check your fuel pump pressure, regulator pressure, and the fuel filter. You may have a weak or dirty injector also. You can pull those and have them tested. I doubt if it's the distributor or you would get a check engine light plus if it's electrical it's usually either good or bad not intermittet. It's easy to check the TPS with a digital volt meter.

    You might also check the rollover senser as it is just a plunger and it might be sticking.

    Ok, here is exactly what happens. You can be cruising in 5th gear, and the engine will kick to an idle, the tach reads 0 rpms and you can hit the clutch and it will catch up right where its supposed to be. The check engine light did not come on. The abs and air bag lights stay on constantly. Maybe this will help pinpoint the problem.

    Well Bob, there goes that theory. Intermitent electricals is what most of them have from what I have worked on. The hardest to find. If it had a cam sensor, I would lean toward that being faulty, but, it sounds like a bad connection, and loosing power.
    Yeah, I agree, electrical problems are almost always intermittent.

    Bad ground???????????

    Ok fellas, yall will probably kill me. The check engine light DOES come on when the engine kicks to an idle. You hit the clutch, the accelerator and the light goes off and goes fine. Also, the light stays on, it does not flash. It caught me by surprise yesterday morning and I wasn't focusing on the check engine light.

    Can they read it even if the light is not on? or does it log it and can be read from the history?
