    Question 302 Question

I have a 1991 302 engine it has a luniti roller cam, its bored .030, has a Edelbrock Victor Jr. high rise intake with a 650 holley 4 barrel carb., flat top pistons, ported and polished 351W heads, it has been all redone. I was wanting to know about how much horsepower do any of you think it has i am hoping more than 350 horses. but tell me if you might know. thanks

gee i think the 302 will be squeaking to get 350 hp out of it without any juice. 1.1 hp per cubic inch is a heck of a strong steet engine = 330 hp
should be someone out there that has dealt with the 302 in a buildup and would have a good idea

Hey Jon, around here there is a company with a portable chassis dyno that shows up at a lot of the car shows. You might want to check around locally to see if there is anyone in your area doing the same thing. It sure has shown the truth on a lot of alleged big horsepower stuff around here!!!

Wish they'd come around here. I bet they'd put a quelsh on that dude's Monte SS with a 383 that puts out "700 hp"

LOL, there ya go 'bird. Just recently we had a "750 horse big block chebbie" net a whopping 288 horse at the rear wheels!!! The first few shows they are at in the spring is always a long line up of folks to see how they did on their winter builds. Most of the my engine has 600 hp talk is follwed by a quick put up or shut up now !!!!

PS, don't know about where you live, but here locally it always seems the big horse claimers never really want to go out on the bypass and "verify" all that horsepower.....Lots of excuses why they can't, but never a good reason.....LOL

I think because they have 4.11's or higher and can do a burn out a mile long they think they have a lot more than they do. I heard his monte was only good for stop light to stop light that out on the road it didn't have a top end.

    Same thing at the track.

Seems the track magically turns 12 second cars into 14 second cars. lol

What is the 302 going into?

    302 hp

My 302 package puts out 289 rwhp and 295 rwtq on a dyno jet. those are just numbers and the only way to tell is to take it to the track which I should do soon. It takes a lot to get a 302 to put out 350rwhp. My combo is 302, AFR 165 58 cc chambers,BG 650 dp, MSD, air gap intake (knock off profeesionsl products) and the other bolt ons. 350 flywheel hp you should do. I like to tune on the dyno and see what it will do on the track. Let everyone know what it does. Go to a dyno with a wideband sensor. Its the best money you will ever spend

    Good luck

Dennis, that is some very good horsepower for a 302!!!! A few years back, thought we had a friends drag motor all dialed in, played with jets, timing, and plugs on the dyno. Results were a net gain of 27 horsepower!!! Heck of a good payback for a couple of hours and 3 pulls on the chassis dyno. Have tried to do everything I build on the dyno since then, results have always been in the plus 15 to 30 horsepower gain.......
