carb
I'm getting ready to swapout the engine in my 1964 Ford Falcon.
I'm looking for recommendations on what carb to use. I have both a 2V & 4V intake (stock), the engine is a stock 302cid and I only use the car for cruising. The existing carb has been replaced with what appears to be a late model unit that I can't reduce the idle under 700rpm. Both the old engine and the new one are early model 302's no smog, dipstick in the timing cover.
Since the original 260 is long gone and several people have butchered the car before I found it I'm also going to replace the stock distributor with a new "PerTronix Flame Thrower" , new wires etc. and general cleanup under the hood while the engine is out.
The engine will be hooked to the existing C4 auto.
Thanks in advance for all information.

The primary throttle bores/venturis in a small 4-bbl will more than likely be smaller than the throttle bores/venturis in a 2-bbl carb, leading to crisper throttle response and better gas mileage, provided of course, that you keep your foot out of the secondaries. With the 4-bbl, you'll have a little additional power for passing or other demands over the 2-bbl.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

what heads do you have? a casting number please??? 2bbl heads wont flow well with a 4bbl carb.... when you hit the secondaries, it'll bog down if you dont tune the secondaries to open lessjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

Here are the casting numbers that are located in the rocker arm area of the heads; left head 2V 7m27
right head 2V 8D30
thanks

yup 2bbl heads.... i'd reccomend using a lower CFM carb than what would be rated for your cam and such, cause the 2bbl heads wont be able to handle that much volume... so when you open up the secondaries you'll over gas it.... which the motor will catch up, but its hard on the valve trainjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

Your 302 ragtop should be way cool with a small Edelbrock 4-bbl. I've always gotten better mileage with a 4-barrel over a 2, mainly because tuning kits are available for 4's,so you can tailor one to work.
