351 Hp?
I've got a stock 1969 351. How much horsepower would you say it would start with?
Would it be a good idea to bore it out, and if so, to what?
(Would it be possible to bore a 351 to a 428?)"I'd take the sound of a supercharged 428 over any souped up V-TECH...anyday."

Welcome Rookie, u can find lots of W stroker kits in those 5.0 magazines that are everywhere. Theres not too much info here as this is a 350 site, but I think those strokers go up to 450 cubics with a W block. Thats enough to build tons of power, and runs forever.Choose your battles well===If it dont go chrome it

Holy buckets, guess I better quit posting stuff about my nailhead, windsors, and FE's!!!
I've built a couple of the 351W stroker motors, one a 408, and the other a 427. Both made great (chebbie killers) power, the 427 just made a bit more!!!! Lots of good Blue Oval guys here, Rookie. Keep asking the questions.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Thanks guys. This place is great for me (a guy rebuilding a '69 Ford and doesn't know jack about it).
Everybody here's pretty helpful."I'd take the sound of a supercharged 428 over any souped up V-TECH...anyday."

Thanks man. That's exactly what I was lookin' for.
EDIT: I'm havin' a bit of a chrisis here. I'm havin' a really hard time deciding what to put in my Torino GT. I want great HP because I'm planning on taking it to the drag strip, but I want it to run good on the streets, too. Not just for racing. I'm trying to figure out what would be the best engine to start with and what I should do with it. I'm trying to get atleast 700 HP without nitrous or a supercharger.
Anyone got any ideas or any sites where I can find Ford spec sheets?Last edited by RookieOfTheYear; 06-15-2005 at 12:30 PM.

Hi, Rookie. I ain't much of a FORD guy, but I am learning; my son has a '69 Torino GT Formal Coupe with a 351W HO in it, and I helped him replace it a few months ago, and learned a bit. When ever he has a problem, and it gets bad enough for him to be concerned, he comes around for "Ol' Dad's" assistance, and I get to learn something else.
In the process of figuring out what he was going to do with his old broken engine, we checked out several shops, and saw a few really nice builds. The 408 and 427 strokers were quite impressive - we saw two 408s, and a 427, all three were a bit different from one another, but really healthy, and all were streetable. I was very impressed with what I saw. Be aware that there are two versions of the 351W; one is what I dubbed "LoPo", or low performance, that is listed as a "2V" engine, meaning two barrel carb, I assume. The other is the HO, which seems to describe a "high output" version with different firing order, and different cam design from the "LoPo", and a four barrel carb.
Go ahead and ask lots of questions, get as many books and magazines as you can find, study, ask questions, inquire, ecetera, etcetera, etceterrrra.

If you really want 700 HP you'd be better off starting with a 460 and lots of "fun tickets". The 351 is a great engine, but reliability goes out the window at about 450.
