    More 302 questions

what are the differences between the 302's from various year/model mustangs (the most prolific donors around here). I'll be putting aluminum heads, intake, carburator, & hope to use the Billet Specialties accessories, so essentially I'm asking what's different, if anything, in the short blocks between a:

    Cobra R
    Cobra SVT
    GT
    GTS

    Thanks
    Rob

The blocks are the same, only difference is weather or not it was a roller cam engine. Can't remember (so what else is new) what year Ford switched over to the roller cam on the 302's.

what about rocker assemblies. are they the same across the years? are they reusable with any of the good flowing aluminum heads on the market?

If you are going with aftermarket aluminum heads, the majority of them come with screw in studs, 3/8". A set of roller rockers on them is definitely the way to go, less friction, frees up a few horsepower, and they are adjustable.

It was 85 on the carburated motors. the 85 injected (TBI style) that came with the automatic trans was still the old flat tappet HO cam.

Thanks Dave, I am going with after market aluminum heads & definitely want to use roller rockers... what I'm not clear on is whether Ford put suitable roller rockers in any production cars with a 302... and if so, what year/make/models I'd be looking for.

I'm trying to figure out what donor cars to put at the top of my list when talking with used motor places.

parts like roller rockers... i wouldn't trust from a donor car... i'd buy brand new parts to insure reliability.... i've learned my lesson the hard way about using parts out of donor cars in my motors... i get sick of fixing the same thing 10 times... ends up being cheaper to buy the new stuff... might be more expensive which ends up taking longer to build it... but its definately worth it
just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

The 93 cobras have 1:6 rollers and will be made by crane.
