68 Ford 302
I have a 68 Mercury Cougar with the 302 2v all original. I have looked everywhere, and this might be an impossible question to answer but, what were some of the OEM cam lift specs they used back then? Is there a way to find out what cam I have without buying precision measuring tools to measure spring movement? Thanks.

I'm not sure what your goal is. If the car is bone stock, as you say, the cam is just the garden variety Ford small block cam. If memory serves me correctly, next step up was the 225 HP 4 barrel cam, then I think it jumped up to the 271 HP solid lifter Cobra cam. It has been 40 odd years since I played around with a 289 (swapped one into a Bugeyed Austin Healy Sprite in 1965) and upgraded to a Cobra solid cam later on, but don't remember specifics.
What are you trying to do, or figure out?

Find an old Chilton's manual in the library or an old shop, should have the cam specs in there....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Learning must be difficult for those who already know it all!!!!

Just trying to find out if there is a way to identify the stock cam I have without pulling the cam, head, or valve cover. I believe they put as many as 6 or 7 different cams in the 302 back then.
