What 351C? Built, stock, balanced, zero miles, 100,00 miles, etc., etc.,
I've had small block Chevys that peaked out at 5500 RPM, and I had an altered that turned 9,500 easily.
No offense, but your question is like asking "how high is up?"Jack

Depends a lot on how it has been maintained..... A stock engine of unknown mileage would just be a guess... Might want to at least check the compression, see how the cylinder balance is.... Just a wag, but i would keep it below 4500 R's.Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

well, i took the truck out for a spin a lil while ago...Its an automatic...I got on the trottle and didnt let off and it was shifting at around 5500, so i guess that gives me somewhat of an idea...The truck only has a 3speed with 4.11 gears...The only thing im worried about is being in 3gear at cruising speed...When im on the highway doing about 50-60mph the engine is reving at a steady 4300-4500...As soon as i step on the gas it jumps up real quick to around 5000, im always scared im gonna over rev it...
forgive me if i make things a lil confusing or leave details out, im still a young'n kinda (23) learning as i go...Ill have to do a compression test like you mentioned...thanks for the info guys..

i plan on getting a AOD this winter, so thatll deff help...I might even change the gears...Its pretty much a "hole shot" truck at the moment...Im running 275s in the rear now and 225 upfront

i would not run an AOD on 351c.... i would reccomend a c-6 with an add on overdrive modul, they're expenisve... but they'll save you a lot more pain and frustraition than an AOD that goes out everytime you drive around the block... IMO they're on of the worst trannies ford ever producedjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

ill look into the C-6...I was going to go with an AOD that has been professional rebuilt to be better then the orig. ones...Thanks for the advice though..When you say they are expensive what kind of numbers are we looking at? The AOD i was looking into was going to be something like 2grand if im not mistaken when all was said and done..

well heres the deal, the aod is just a poorly designed tranny with a good build they'll hold for a little while, but say, 6 months down the road... you might be rebuilding it again..... and so forth... i've never seen an aod last long on a high performance motorjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

thanks for the advice once again. From what ive been told the AOD is pretty much the only 4spd that will hook up to the 351C...Thats just what ive heard though, i dont know much about transmissions as we speak.

c6 would be the toughest choice on automatics for a 351c, and for an overdrive you would end up spending about $1500 for the overdrive module which actually connects between the tranny and the driveshaft, almost like a transfer case.... some models can be setup to give you a 6 speed with an overdrive at the end and puts gears in between your first and second and second and third....i believe those models are a little more thoughjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

Hey 2 low, went out and looked at an old Torino dash I have with factory tach, the redline on it is at 5,000 rpm. Guess the guys at Ford though 5 was plenty.. The engine will have it's max torque built by about 4000 to 4500 anyway, might as well grab another gear and keep on going...Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
