rear end selection
ok so i'm debating right now which rear end i would like to put in my car....i was planning on ordering a full currie 9" designed for perfect fitment to my car with posi and 4.56 gears.... but now i got an offer for an 8.8 rear for $150 out of a 91 mustang GT, already has 4.56s and is like $1700 cheaper than what i would spend on the 9".... the only thing is it requires modifications ie; cut off the control arms, change axles to 5 lug($220) and swap over spring perches, which the pinion sits at a tad bit of an angle so i would have to weld them on perfectly or i'd be screwed.... think its worth it to go thru the trouble of the 8.8 or should i just spend the money and get the real deal?just because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day

Good choice. For years the 8" was overlooked for rodding use. It will do u fine.
BTW: The 8.8 would have been a good choice too. Parts are easy to get (Not that I've needed any). It has good strength for any type small block application. (Big block too if the car is light and tires 10" or less in width.)
They are routinely used on Big-Block Cobra kit cars and 4WD truck conversions.
They are the perfect width for any early Ford based vehicle project. The 5.0 Mustangs had posi too. The axles can just be redrilled for cheap and the correct brake drums for the mustang brakes are $35 ea. from NAPA.
The extra $350 comes in when u want 31 spline axles.....(They r so large that the seal drags on the axle shaft all the way in...lol) If you worry about case strength, they make a girdle for it...

yeah, i was considering the 8.8 but the work to convert it just turned me off when it came to an 8", plus theres no brakes on my 8" which makes it easier to put on my 95-04 cobra brakes on it www.vintagevenom.comjust because your car is faster, doesn't mean i cant outdrive you... give me a curvy mountain road and i'll beat you any day
