Thread: Solid motor mounts? need solid tranny mount?

They dont sell motormounts for my frenkenstein mustang II. So I have decided to weld up the old ones. Do i need to have a solid tanny mount too. This is a weekend driver only. And there is no why im gonna go to a rubber mounted motor mount right now. I just want to get it going.

are you planning on racing the car? solids really as just a street driver will just make the ride less comfortable for you.... what exactly setup are you going with? you can get a solid motor mount for just about any application..... and i haven't seen solid tranny mounts.....

No solid trany mounts should be used!!!!
Everyone I've heard that use them with any kind of H.P.
End up cracking thier bell housing on the trany.
If you want to do more, you could go with a engine plate.

the rule of thumb is, if you mount the motor solid then the tranny also should be mounted solid. same applies if you mount one soft the other should be soft also. if you will be spending time on the street i would advise energy suspension polyurethane mounts, pretty stiff but still has some vibration control. beware when you mount one soft and one solid that is when you crack cases, here is a link

Thanks for clearing that up Mooneye777 I had not heard that.
I have allways run driver side solid and pass, side soft to cut down
on vibration. With a soft trany mount. I heard a lot of guy complaining how they had busted the bellhousing on their tranys from running solid trany mounts. My new project is gonna have engine plates. so I better go solid on the trany too. Thanks again for clearing that up, and giving me the right facts.

I have a 302 with all sorts of stuff on it. And a C4. I was just gonna weld something to the top part and the bottom part of the tranny mount to make it solid. I have tried to order rubber motor mounts a few times and they have got me the wrong ones every time.

Im just sick if waiting for parts and want to get it going. Probally mostly just drive it a few days a week.
