SBF Timing Cover Differences
I'm looking at accessory drive packages for the 347 and I'm trying to figure out which timing cover I have of the ones shown here:
http://www.allstarperformance.com/sp...ts/pdf/651.pdf
The drive guy says they are all OK except the reverse rotation cover. I'm pretty sure I have the ALL90014, but my engine guy who supplied the cover says mine is for '87 to '93 applications. Mine has the little boss & hole above the horizontal rib just in from the drivers side, but I do not have the dipstick hole and while the mechanical fuel pump boss is there, there is no hole into the cam lobe (perhaps you just drill it out or break through if using a mechanical pump?).
What is the physical difference between the ALL90014 Early Style and the ALL90017 '85-94 Mustang w/EFI Reverse Rotation. Is the timing cover differrent inside for a reverse rotation water pump? I guess I thought the cover was only an adapter to mount the pump, and that the two pumps were identical bolt pattern? Can I see a difference without pulling the balancer and cover?Roger

I always thought it was just the dipstick hole and the fuel pump mounting Rog, guess I couldn't swear to it.....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Well, I got confirmation from Sehr that the cover they put on my engine is not for a reverse rotation pump, so I am good to go as far as I can tell. I still do not understand how there can be any difference between those two timing covers when the flow through the engine is the same, and the only difference is the rotational direction of the water pump impeller, considering that the pump does not use the timing cover as a pump chamber - it is sealed on the back side. It boggles my mind that the 90017 cover is "for reverse flow pump applications only".Last edited by rspears; 01-21-2010 at 02:55 PM. Reason: fixed underline

its the bolt locations and the nose location of the pump.
if you ever got a sbf rebuild gasket kit you would be amazed at how many different pumps there was.
rtcf-302a front cover has dipstick and fuel pump this should take a reverse rotation pump, meaning serpentine belt onlySBF nut
