quick question concerning the 4.6
im a chevy guy and dont know much about the 4.6 engines but im looking at getting an 05 GT and i was wondering what the weak link is in the engine?? is it the cams? compression? heads. intake? or what exactly? any insight on what someone else has done and got noticeable gains would be awesome! im asking as far as internals.. i know you can do the bolt on stuff like cold air and full exhaust.... so again any help on this subject would be much appreciated!

Computor chips air filter, go with K&N
And Super chargers or turbo chargers if you realy need to go faster.
I got a 07 Mustang GT and go to car club meets and thats what alot of them are doing.
I didn't But my wife drives it so I don't need 5 or 6 hundred in HP.
Here is some photo's of mine on this site below.

sweet car ! i like the yellow and thanks for the quick reply .. but i was looking into a magazine article about i think it was an 80's trans am and they put headers on it, then full exhaust, then a new intake manifold and only saw like a 10 hp increase then they put a new cam in it and gained something like 75-85 horse! they were saying how the cam was the week link .. so im curious as to if the 4.6 has something like that that i can change that i can see big improvements on top of all the bolt ons!
thanks

That 80's trans am is a little differant from the 4.6 Mustang.
I didn't know you wanted to get that far in to the motor.
The old trans am's were alot easier to work on than the newer Mustangs.
My Big brother had one and I used to do all his work on it back then.
He had a small block 400 in his, and that thing flew.
Plus the heads on the two cars are totaly differant one is two valves and the mustang three valves, Plus hydrolic cam verses mustangs roller cam of today.
And the trans am had almost 100 more cubic inches unless your talking about the 455
engine then your talking 150 more cubic inches. This is compared to the 4.6 of the 283 mustang engines.
Can not really compare the two cars, It's really how much work you want to do and how much money you want to spend. KurtLast edited by vara4; 03-03-2010 at 12:28 PM.
