Looked in archive / a question of bal.
I have been led to understand that Ford
302/351 ...prior to 79 were balanced
totally with the crank ..,and after that they
had flywheel bal..., but I keep hearing
about two different weights ..30 ounces
and 50 ounces .Is there a wieght change
in 1984? from 30 to 50?
I installed a 302 (automatic trans.) The casting # isEOAE D3C. into my 1982 ford
4X4 1/2 T PU (4 spd standard)useing the flywheel off my 351(which I think was pre 1979) the bal. was way off . Next I used a
flywheel that you could visably see the wieght cast into it. It's still in there so I don't have the #but I'm sure it started with an E .It seems to me I still am having
a slight bal. prob. although not nearly as
bad as the first time
Can anyone help with this?R. Lank

My catalog has at least 15 different flywheels listed for Ford 302. It seems that you will need to know the year, what trans and what the engine originally came in to get the correct flywheel. Good luck!!

The #'s on the block are EOAE DC3
Is this then from a 1980 Galexy?
I know it was an automatic transmittion
I wonder if I have a problem with the fact
that Galexy never came with a standard
tranny?R. Lank

68-81.. 28oz balance
82- newer.. 50oz balance
351w always had 28oz balance
82 was the first year ford changed their balance from 28oz
to 50oz
a 351 w has always had the 28oz balance
all production ford small blocks are externally balanced..

oh, one more thing which may help solve your problem
all ford small blocks are externally balanced
through the harmonic dampner to the flywheel
if you try to use a 50oz balancer with a 28oz flywheel
you will get your vibration problem
considering yours is an 82 you should have a 50 oz balancer on the front of your engine with a 50oz flywheel, if not you found your problem..
you can not put a 28oz balance assembly on a 50oz bal; engine
good luck
