My buddy is building a 49 Merc 1 ton into a 1/2 ton long box.
he wasn't sure if it would look good....and I told him...if he got his truck to sit in the weeds and kept all his lines clean and straight that his truck would ROCK! Those long box trucks just have that look to them especially the "Monkey Face" ones!
Do you have any build pics of your 49?? I checked your gallery not much there...I know he would like to see what others are doing.canadianwillyg

I have most of all the big parts for my truck!
The hard part is storing them until I get the cab body work all completed.

It looks like my truck will be heading out to Kelowna, BC at the end of the month just bought a place there. Bigger garage and extra room for the project..did I mention the weather... warmer and no more 8 month winters.
Scary thing happened when I started my engine up to run lubrication before moving. I cranked it over with the wheels sitting on four wheel skates and it started up...couldn't figure out why I was hearing this squealing sound looked around and saw the drive shaft turning ,it was the tires turning in the wheel skates! Lucky it wasn't on the floor or my 07 GT Mustang would of had two frame rail holes in its bumper>> How about a neutral switch??????Last edited by Cdnwillyg; 10-05-2010 at 10:04 PM.

Well me and the truck are now in Kelowna, BC but what sucks is I think its going up for sale. I just don't have the room to have this and some other toys in my garage. I'm trying to think outside the box but not with much success.canadianwillyg

What happened?? Bigger garage not what you thought it was going to be, or unexpected rules in the neighborhood? It's a real bummer to have to sell the project with as much time, money and sweat equity you've put into it Was looking forward to seeing this one completed - those old trucks are way cool.Roger

Thanks Roger, for feeling a bit of my pain.
Its just the lay out with the double doors and the access to the crawl space is in there which takes up some valuable floor space. In my other garage I had a place to slide my bike into which I don't have here. All said if I can't sell the truck, then I will some how have to make this work. I have thought about getting a portable garage to store my Mustang in, not the most secure but at least out of sight. Then I can just push the bike out each time I work on the truck.
If the truck is still here after the new year then plan "B", what ever that is going to be.Last edited by Cdnwillyg; 12-09-2010 at 04:09 PM.

Yeah, seemed like you had everything working your way, milder climate in BC (Alberta can be bitter - here in the mid-west when we get those severe NW cold fronts that push us sub-zero they call them "Alberta Clipper's"!!), bigger garage, and good progress to date only to post that you might be selling the project I hope you can find a way to make it work for you in the new location. I would love to have that truck sitting in my barn!!Roger

Well its the new year and I still have my truck, interesting that anyone that called either want to trade something worth next to nothing for it or were interested in any extra parts. Two guys did encourage me to complete it and that if I sold it I would be mad later that I did. So after a talk with the misses, I will be bringing my truck into the garage to continue my build and she is willing to park her vehicle outside! She even said that I needed to keep it too or I would go nuts with nothing to do. She is a keeper for sure!
Will update once a few renos are out of the way!canadianwillyg
