Thanks man Well news flash not a bodyman i actually never even picked up a welder before i started on this project just self taught,
"although i am an artist" and i feel i do have a keen eye for proportions and fine detail! lol
But i have done all the fabrication on the car i had a friend that is a bodyman come in and block the car! but thats all he does is make what i do smooth and hes only worked on the outside of the body and of course i'll have him paint it, its just what he does. and hes as anal as i am about lil details.
Thanks again i'll be sure to keep you updated!Last edited by Pro fleetline; 01-19-2011 at 12:47 PM.

Yeh thanks!
Oh i had to leave handles i did remove the locks but i felt the car needed a lil chrome left down the side i have all the orginal stainless for the window trim aswell its in great shape.
but i love just touching these handles that backward hook designs is so cool besides i didnt want to destroy the 40's feel to the car!
When i welded this hood to the fenders wow made a ton of work for myself i opended the hood at the body line and the top of the hood is pancake style but as you can see i had to build everything from scratch!
But i think will be worth the effort ecs. when parked next to another at a good show.Last edited by Pro fleetline; 01-19-2011 at 02:41 PM.

Great job on the Chevy! I have a soft spot for 48's.....my first car at 16 was a 48 business coupe. Put a Jimmy 6 in it....lots of great memories.
If this is your first welding job you obviously are a quick learner.Remember, Freedom isn't Free, thousands have paid the price so you can enjoy what you have today.

Yep bought the car 5 years ago
And have always wanted a super cool and smooth hot rod and i fellin love with the fleetline bodystyle and have always like the pro street/race style look.
This was great just wrapping it in a 48 chevy shell.
Also yes indeed never welded a lick until this project took my time and of course it was frustrating and threw away some cool ideas that thought just wasnt as nice as they coud be and continued to be patient, and waaaal la.
Fortunetly most of the big fab work is done, its been nice to finally get to the fun stuff like building the console etc.
The car has the "V" theme through out if you really look from the shape of the hand formed bird under the hood to the steering column mount and cover to the designs in the wheels the gauge cluster etc. little hints through out that i wanted to keep as a neat classic looking theme.
Hell maybe i'll call it the "V" ROD lol
Low mount"Right" side alt. not left in mock up
Wrapped new rockers under the car 5"s more to the body lip for a cleaner look and to eliminate that ugly body lip that hangs under most cars!

So does the tilt front part roll foward and then lifts and when the car is finished will you be able to tilt the front and open the hood? Yes I had noticed the "V" thing going on and it's those sort of details that make a car outstanding.
Also noticed your little helper racing around the garage looking for more work, very cute just like my little cockapoo.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Very nice job! I feel the same way about the handles. My car started turning too much into a smoothie street rod and keeping the stock door handles is one way to dial it back a bit especially considering the family history of the car. Keeping the stock handles though I can't figure out what to do about locks other than a remote . Are you planning for keyless entry?'35 Ford coupe- LT1/T56, '32 Ford pickup, 70 GTO convertible, 06 GTO

Actually im taking the lock units out of the door! so it dosent get accidently locked and just using the handles, the car will not be out of my site anywhere anyway! so just removong them all together besides if someone wants in they will just break a window anyway!
I am considering a lo-jack system for it with all the post and rumors of stolen cars and trailers etc.
As for the front end it actually just tilts forward dosent slide out first what i do is i have to open both doors first then tilt it so the doors dont hit! same way going down!
And yes the top part will be able to open when its tilted aswell but no need to have it open at same time besides i will be running a simple prop rod to hold it up, to remove the akward looking hood shocks makes for a cleaner simpliar look!

Having built three tube chassis pro street cars I'm STILL a big fan. The fleetline body lends its self to pro street IMO. Nice execution.
My car in the avitar is getting the tubbed look too.
I think I'd be calling that car "Tubby".
Keep us posted.

The Fleetline is going to be very nice - you're doing a great job.
You'll want to look at the lo-jack coverage areas for where you live, and just as important where you plan to travel before you drop $700 for their system. They have more dead zones across the country than they have coverage.

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
