2wd 1988 bronco
After seeing the 2wd bronco prototype with the lightning drivetrain that Ford built back in the 90s I wanted one but it never got made, untill recently I did not know that the 4x4 stuff unbolts and 2wd parts bolt on so I found one that has issues with the front hubs and seems to have some slop in the transfer case so its the perfect candidate for the swap. Right now its going to get the stock F150 I beams and 2wd trans so I can drive it and will save up for a lowering kit and hope to change it over to a 351 in a couple years. My daily driver got hit and the money from it is financing this project as it will be my daily driver/parts chaser that is not like the rest.

I almost bought the identical truck, Cept it was a '90. Also had the Eddy Bauer pkg which yours appears to possibly have ( seats ).. It was an ok truck but really really beat.. It'll be neat to see a 2wd.
It is cool how Ford kept the front frames the same, and only changed the beams.. They did the same thing with '83-'97 Rangers..You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Most on the bronco forums think I am nuts for doing it but you could get a blazer or ramcharger in 2wd and I live in the city and do not need a 4x4,I have seen couple a few done but no one around here has one.

There are some Early Broncos (1966-1977) being lowered on ClassicBroncos.com that really look awesome. I'm an early Bronco guy with a 75 but I like to 'wheel it' so I'll keep the front axle spinning. I love the idea you have of doing a Lightning edition Bronco. Keep us posted.

Heck, if you're going to lower it you should check into using the front suspension from the '03-'08 Crown Vic. It gets you big brakes, rack & pinion and it's almost a bolt on for the '61-79 F100's. Plus they can be bought for less than Dream Beams. Not sure how different yours is from those trucks but it's worth looking at. Do a Crown Vic search on http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/index.php"It is not much good thinking of a thing unless you think it out." - H.G. Wells

I thought about that but I want to do something quick and easy so I can drive it and planning on lowering it more later, just getting rid of the front differential and 4x4 springs should get it dow about 4 inches and removing the raising blocks from the rear will get the rear down about 2 so that will be enough untill I can come up with a used set of beams.

Maybe just keep your eyes open for a cheap donor F150 to get all the parts you need and sell the rest to finance your project. Here's one in your area http://dayton.craigslist.org/cto/2305220233.html"It is not much good thinking of a thing unless you think it out." - H.G. Wells
