I now have 1/2 of a roller. I went over tonight and dug out some 46 Ford brake drums with hubs and got them installed on the spindles. Then I bolted on the front wheels and tires, and installed an old tie rod I had laying around, to keep the wheels from flopping when I put the weight of the car on them. The tie rod clears the wishbones by a good inches, which makes my life a lot easier...........no bending of the steering arms needed.

This morning I placed an order with Speedway for a new tie rod, some spindle nuts, wishbone to axle spacers, and misc other parts. Those should be here Tuesday. Now I can concentrate on getting the rear axle installed. I have most of the parts I need, like the coilovers and 4 bar setup. I need to order some rod ends for the 4 bars because Dan had previously taken the stainless ones off and used them on his car. I also found out my tread is 56 inches on the front and back now, with the new, wider 8 inch rear. That should help a lot both appearance wise and handling wise.

If things keep going like this I might actually have the car rolling by my deadline at the end of the month. Here are some pictures from tonight.

Thanks guys. Charlie, I have a set of 37 Ford tail lights, those bullet shaped ones, and will probably use those. For headlights I have a pair of Dietz lights and also some Guides that are a little bigger. I'll have to see which look better when I get there.

Steve, I'm actually leaning toward the Guides. When I mocked it up a while back I had the Dietz on it and while they are a clean little light they just look too small to me. But maybe since I am going for a drag altered look that might not be too bad either. I'll put both sets on when the time comes and stand back and see.

Don love the hubcaps in that shot! Lights do look small, but may be appropriate for the look your shooting for. Too big may compete with the peanut tank and radiator shell.

I don't think its the moon tank I think the lights (which I like) are just to close to the rad.shell.

Headlights are fine. Moon tanks don't do much for me - but of course, it's your car and what we say (me anyhow) just opinion. What I really wont like is a white painted suspension as several I've seen looked dirty and the inevitable chips drooling rust.

    OK Don,
You, Dave Severson, or Jerry Clayton may have better memory of this than I do, but if I remember correctly... Back in the (really early) old days roadsters didn't run in the Altered class. If they had fenders, headlights, 10% or less engine setback, and radiator up front they ran in Street Roadster class. Street Roadster was the equivalent of Gas class, but for open cars (Gas class was all coupes and sedans). If a roadster had no fenders it ran in Modified Roadster class. In Modified Roadster radiators and lights were optional and engines could be set back up to 25%. It was the equivalent of Altered class for open cars (Altereds were all coupes and sedans). Most of these had the little fuel tanks up front... Altereds and Modified Roadsters were all morphed into one class sometime in the latter half of the '60s. I don't remember what happened to the Street Roadster class... Somewhere I have pics I took at the 1961 NHRA Nationals - first time they ran at Indy - and there are some good examples in there.
