Don i've found the 1/2" UNF thread to be just fine, 3/4" is gonna be overkill plus i'm not sure there is enough meat in the tapped bung to take the 3/4" thread., It takes an incredible amount of shear to take out a 1/2" bolt.

Hmmmm, never thought of that. I thought that was a solid piece of the yoke inserted back in there and that there would be room for the new threads. What about going to 5/8? The reason I want to do that is that I don't think they make 1/2 inch perches with a 5 or 9 degree angle so my spring shackles lay straight instead of cocked, due to the way the wishbones angle in at the rear.

Not sure what you mean by the 5 or 9 degrees Don, Shackles should be at 35 degrees from the horizontal to work correctly.

No, you know how most of the perches that have a threaded part perpendicular to the shackle hole have it sticking straight out? Either SoCal or Pete and Jakes carry them so the threaded part is angled to the hole so that when you install it on a wishbone that tilts inward at the back the spring shackle isn't on a bind. I'll try to find a picture to post of what I mean.

UK Steve, I forget where I bought the angled perches I had on my 23. I thought it was SoCal but I looked on their site and didn't see them. I'll have to ask Dan where we got them, he has them on his rpu too.

Heck guys the fun has started already and that Model A Roadster is awesome.

Nothing good was on TV tonight and it rained hard, which cooled things off, so I decided to go to the shop and play with my new frame rails. My very favorite part of a build is the mock up, it's so much fun pushing parts into place and then sitting back in a chair and visualizing what it will be like when done. Must be the kid in me.

I picked the body up and slid the rails under it, then blocked them up at the height they should ultimately end up at. Once that was done I lowered the body down, put the front and rear axles under it, as well as the model a grille I am going to use and, of course, I had to put the Moon tank up there for the full effect. I like it.

The bed is going to be very short, only big enough for a gas tank and radiator. I still have the louvered tonneau cover Dan was going to run originally on his rpu, and am going to cut it down to fit and maybe use some of it to build the tailgate. It will need holes back there to allow heat from the radiator to escape and to let cool air in, so that should be a good way to do it, while hiding all the stuff in the bed from view.

I have a Superbell 4 inch dropped axle that I was going to use, but it looked too new for what I want this car to look like, so I scored a NOS 34 front axle on Ebay a while back and am going to use that...................punched full of holes, naturally.

BTW, I had a little guest hang out with me tonight. One of the strays is super friendly and seems to like company. I looked up and there he was, sitting there. I had to make sure he left before I closed the garage door because one time two of them got locked in overnight. Dan went to the shop the next day and there were 4 eyes looking at him out of Dons 46 Ford.

Here are some pictures of where I left off tonight. Now we can take some measurements and clamp the frame to the jig to install the front and rear crossmembers.

Oh, here is a shot of the Speedway wishbones. I really like them and think they are very close to the originals.

Also, Steve, here is a picture of the perches I was talking about. The one on the left is the 1/2 inch one that fits the wishbones, and the one on the right is the Pete and Jakes angled one I need to correct the shackle angle. You can see in the picture how the threaded part is angled slightly to realign the shackles due to the wishbone being closer at the rear than at the axle. I forgot I even had a pair of these in my stash, and found them tonight when I was digging around.

Nah, just a lot of other things/places competing for the time available. We finally got some good weekend weather just in time for the Goodguys deal this weekend........it was terrific!

You guys probably already know that Dan got his car posted in "Rod & Kulture" as part of their BP Florida coverage...................more stars for the kid!!!
