Yeah, I think the whole rat rod traditionalist thing is a fad myself. Car building goes through all kinds of phases just like in the 80s when everyone was using wild mutli color graphics and painting all the bumpers and trim to match. Never cared much for those. I love the old body styles but I want it to be comfortable, drive nice, have decent power, be able to run at today's highway speeds, and be able to take it on a long run without issues. I do understand the aversion to putting a 350 Chevy in everything, it's just kinda boring to me but each to his own. My thoughts are that it will be a good modern update to make the car enjoyable and it will also make a great conversation piece at the shows. Im planning on smoothing off the Ford emblems on the motor and putting on some Chrysler emblems just to mess with some folks and get them scratching their heads. "It's an experimental Mopar Indy motor that an engineer snuck out of R&D in his lunch box; one piece at a time."

My son and I got the motor pulled out of the Taurus today; what a PIA! It looked like a car bomb hit the garage by the time we got it out. Once this huge mess is cleaned up and the junk hauled off Ill pull the front clip and start sizing things up.

Dave, I would never want to put one of these motors back in a Taurus. Even with the whole drive assembly out there was no room to work and bolts hidden in places that were impossible to get to. Plus I bashed myself in the side of the face with a breaker bar, cutting the crap out of the side of my head and swelling my eye almost shut. Not a good car day.
I did a lot of research on the fuel injection and spark wiring and have decided to go with a build it yourself Megasquirt system rather than the factory computer. There's a few guys over on the SHO Furums that are running these and really like them.Last edited by falconvan; 07-22-2013 at 06:53 AM.

I thought about trying to do one of those DIY mega squirt deals on my 354 and adding a turbo. IDK if I'll do that or not.Ryan

Got a buddy who swears by the MegaSquirts! I figure now that I have a basic understanding of how the maps and curves work with each other my next one will likely be MegaSquirt or BigSquirt3. I feel a lot more confident with the DIY circuit board concept now....Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.

This will be my first taste of aftermarket fuel injection but by all accounts it looks like a good one to start with. I think building the the thing from the circuit board up will help me understand the functions and how it interacts with the engine better than cobbling together a wiring harness and using the factory computer.

I have a half numb finger resultant from falling backwards, holding a breaker bar: I actually crushed the finger tip with my own body weight... Finishing the shift was tough, but I called out the next day..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

Yep, there's a reason they're called "breaker" bars! Ouch!!!"It is not much good thinking of a thing unless you think it out." - H.G. Wells

When they are that tight. I use a length of pipe on the breaker bar. Leverage wins.Charlie
