Lots done today. I got the rest of the stuff Im not using stripped off the motor. The plan is to go without A/C or PS. It looks like it will work fine, I'm just going to have to make a bracket for the alternator that will adjust the belt. The belt tensioner was part of the PS bracket so no good there. I had to grind a litte notch on the inside of the five speed bellhousing so that it would bolt up to the motor but it was a piece of cake after that. So I've got it sitting between the rails and its got a few issues to work with but nothing too drastic. It's going to need a little firewall surgery so that the motor will go back a few more inches. Right now the oil filter will hit the steering box. I may try to come up with something to relocate the filter altogether; got to do some thinking on how to accomplish that. Shifter placement looks good, np problems there. The tie rod is dead center on the oil pan so the pan may need some notching, and it looks like custom headers will have to be built. Im going to try and alter a set of factory 3.8 Mustang headers and see how that works. Fun stuff, though.

Should work out good, just a few minor adjustments! Check some of the 3.8 parts sources, should be someone makes a 90 degree oil filter adapter, or a remote filter kit that fits it.

Good progress! Not sure of your filter details, but I found a little shorty filter, NAPA Gold 1335, that is only about 3" long and fits the same base as the "standard" big Ford filter with 3/4x16 thread, ~4" diameter. Might not be the answer for you, but may be worth a quick look.

Thanks, Roger. I think Im going to go ahead and do a remote adapter just because the oil filter is right above the starter and its tough to get the filter out without getter oil all over it. Wix makes an adapter for it, I got one on the way. It looks like Im only going to have to take a few inches off of the deep part of the sump at this point. It's looking better; I cut out part of the firewall to move the motor back. I'll box it in once everything is where is going to stay. Drivers side wiill definitely need some fabrication on the header. This is right where I want it to sit so now it's time to build motor and trans mounts and figure out how the oil pan will have to be cut for tie rod clearance.

Looks good,Falcon..Just a point of interest..I know a guy in a club a bit south of here,,who picked up a 1950(?) Mopar coupe,,similar to yours,,and through out the old flathead six,,and put a Toyota V8/trans in it..As he says..Easy swap, cheap to buy, economical, and it upsets a few people,,both, when they see it,,and when he pulls away from them on the highway..
    And of all things,,saw a tidy 61 Impala on Saturday,running a Nissan V8/trans..That upset a few guys..

I think one of the time honored traditions of hot rodding was the "use what you have" mentality. It's interesting how some people react to this build. Most people are cool but a few on some other sites have made negative comments. I sure didnt set out to ruffle anyone's feathers; it's a simple matter of already having the parts, doing it on a low budget, and the challenge of making it work. Does it really matter what side of the pond the engine block and pistons were cast on? America is #8 on the list of iron producing countries so I'd say it's a fair bet that most 350 Chevys started life elsewhere.

Thanks, Robin. If I had a solid Toyota V8 sitting in the garage and something I wanted to put it in, I wouldn't hesitate. It's all in good fun.

Seems I recall a very well built Deuce roadster pictured at one of the shows that was running Lexus power? I like what you're doing here.

That bit you cut out of the firewall shouldn't make much difference at all to the interior. Great build.

That powertrain fits really nice in there! That is cool that your fire wall mods won't hinder you much at all. My 40 isn't the same. I'm all for odd swaps, keep at it!

Hey Robin, wasn't there a 5 window '32 Ford on Trade me last year from Hamilton with a Lexus V8 in it also, I think from memory it was one of your bodies too . Satin black with ali 3 piece hood but hey I'm get old so memory not good. Falcon, I like what you are doing also and to hell with what some on that other site say about engines etc. You woke me up to the fact that what once were regarded as darn ugly cars that nobody wanted can be made into excellent different type of cruisers. I admired the 4 door sedan and now this coupe is awesome.
