If it needs to be narrower, the pumpkin is offset to the passanger side so you can grab a passanger side axle shaft from the JY and cut the driver side axle tube and use the PS axle shaft. It will subtract 1.5".You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Thanks, Matt. It's looking like it's going to be right on the money. Yesterday I cleaned up the rear of the frame from in front of the spring perches all the way to the back with an air grinder and hit it with a coat of POR-15. Access was easy at this point so I figured I'd do it for future rust prevention. Today I spent most of the day cutting off the old spring, sway bar, and upper control arm mounts from the Explorer rear; and cleaning it up for a test fit. I dont have my springs back from the spring shop yet but from mocking it up on a floor jack, centering it, and taking a few measurments; it looks like it'll be a pretty good fit. Once I have my springs back and get it set up permanantly, I'll paint the whole works before it goes back in.

Yeah, not to mention the weight difference. After lifting them both I'll bet the stock rear was 75lbs heavier. I've gotten pretty attached to the flathead idea. The one that's going in here is really running nice after putting on the Holley and the HEI on plus I was tickled at how much attention it got at the couple of shows I took it to.

Shaving 75 pounds off will only help that flathead too! You do such nice work.. keep it up!

I got the rearend temporarily mounted with my rebuilt springs, new bushings, and 2" lowering blocks. It's got a nice squat in the rear now; I'm planning on dropping the front to match. Next step is to get the floors in shape; I cut out the old inner and outer rockers along with one side of the floor. First is to build new inner rockers with 16 ga and repair the floor braces. Once I've got both sides done, I'll go back and put in the floorpans and the outer rockers.

Rear end looks great in there, bunches better then the OEM overweight thing that was in there! Bit of forming and welding on the floors and rockers is going to make it one heck of a nice car!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Yeah, Dave; since I had done all the floor pans in the 49 I just cut the whole thing out in one piece so once the bracing and rockers are done I'll drop it in here. No sense doing it twice, I figure. I got the front part of the passenger side mostly done today. The braces looked really rusted but one you hit them with a big wire wheel, they still are solid. I got the inner rocker made, a little patching done and repaired one brace so Im about 3/4 of the way there.

Great work. I really like the way the rear end sits now. You're saving a lot of work transfering the floor pan.I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

WOW, Falcon.. that's amazing (I think so anyway ) , how'd you sneak that big piece outta the car?
it's gonna be a great ride when you're done.

You know, come to think of it I had the roof cut off the other car when I cut the floor pan out. I hope I can get it in the door in one piece! If not, I guess it'll be in two pieces.
