I know you can't do it for the oil that was in the engine when you got it, but another alternative is to start it up, get it all warmed up right, run it through the rpm range a few times and have the oil analyzed - Same Day Oil Analysis, Oil Testing and Filter Analysis of Debris. (I don't know ANYTHING about this lab, it's simply the first one that popped up when I Googled "Engine Oil Analysis") It's widely used for predictive/preventative maintenance in the military and lots of fleet applications. They can pinpoint metal in microscopic sizes, and by the type can tell you the likely source, like cylinder, rings, bearings, cams. Just a thought....Last edited by rspears; 10-22-2013 at 05:46 AM.
