About 5-6 years ago there were some varmints getting into the barn. Digging under the walls to get in. First it was a skunk, then a badger, then ground hogs. We ripped a side walk out by mom and dad's house so dad wanted the broken remains put along the sides and back of the barn. There have been no more issues since. I'm wanting to remove it all and add a lean too on this side so the horses have another venue to get out of the wind. In due time I guess.Ryan

There aren't anymore hay bales in the barn. When I parked my 40 in there about 5 years ago, I didn't check the back seat. Someone had left an almost new box of little Debbie oat meal cookies in there. Luckily those mice ate all those and didn't feast on the interior. After that I spent all summer de micing that barn. I saw a few green droppings in the vette the last time I stored it there but that was it. Last year I had it in a building in the town I live in but I decided to take it back to the barn to save money. Luckily there is no interior in the vette if they do get in there. But I have dryer sheets, and an open bottle of vanilla extract in there. That usually keeps them away. Let's hope. HahaRyan

I'm sure glad I built this crane. I have used it quite a bit. This spring I plan to build a steel one. I might make it 4 posts with wheels on it. That way it can be moved easier and should be able to lift heavier/longer objects safer. This one is a stretch on a full suburban body. You can see it in the back round. Eventually I have to pick the dark green one back up to roll a frame under it. If my brother doesn't do something with it, I'm going to have to do it so I can sell it and get the rest of my money out of it. In a couple weeks I have rented a skid loader and I'm going to load up as much as my scrap as I can. I'm tired of waiting for the prices to go up and tired of looking at it. So after I haul it in the prices will go up.Last edited by 40FordDeluxe; 01-11-2017 at 02:04 PM.

Tell us on here when you sell your scrap steel please.
Then I'll wait a few months and sell mine.
Thanks.

It looks like your hoist works good but I think I would feel more safe under it if it was an I beam on the top.I hear ya on the scrap, I was going to wait till 100 but now I just want it gone. That closest suburban looks like its in pretty tough shape. Seems like most things around here are in great shape except for the bottom 6 inches. I still love that 72.Last edited by 53 Chevy5; 01-11-2017 at 08:55 PM.

I did some research on the wood structural loads before I built it thanks to Mr.Spears's help. I wanted to use an I beam but that would sure be heavy to start with especially with wood legs. I have 3 2x6's screwed and bolted together on the top and legs. It barely even creeked with the not rusted out full burb body on it. The atv winch wasn't thrilled though.
That light green suburban is in rough shape for sure. The rust on the floor is so bad that there is nothing that attaches the floor to the rockers from the front door opening to the rear where the rear sill is by the cargo doors. I purchased it as a donor for a crew cab build later down the road. Luckily I happened upon the dark green body which the frame from the rusty one is going under. Well, maybe someday. That's another story. Haha I plan to move the rusty hulk when I have the skid loader with any luck.Ryan

It's time for some good news! the machine shop got the broken extractor and bolt out of the block! I picked the engine up last Friday and now have both heads on. Hopefully by the end of the week I can be installing the engine. Once this project is done I'll have more room and time to work on the 40!Ryan

Cool; you really should drop those Suburbans off at my place and get them out of your way. Think of all the room you'd have.1 Corinthians 1:27

I'm telling ya, I flip flop every day on that stinkin Camaro, sell-keep-sell-keep. When this pickup is done, I will have a 77 T/A , 1953 3100, and a 71 Camaro. Between me and the wife we only have two butts so I don't know if I need 3 toys, But I like it.

I forgot to add..... It's icy and snowy here. I might be the only nut job driving a nice old truck right now. Haha I've got 4,000 miles on it now. I need to take it apart and finish some stuff because in April it's going to be shot for a magazine. We'll see if I can get the bed painted by then.....Ryan
