Starting New Build-39 Chevy Master Deluxe
Well, just starting a new build. We wanted a big car this time so we found a 1939 Chevrolet Master Deluxe. The car came out of Nevada and was virtually rust free. A small amount of rust in the rear trunck pan and left rear quarter. Rest of the car was surface rust here and there. Hope to get plenty of suggestions and advice from the knowledge-base here.
Here are pictures from when I first saw the car till now, about 2 week span.

The original frame was in very good shape. Previous owner didn't cut a bunch of holes or cobble it up too bad.

I want the big car riding low so the 12 bolt & leaf springs have to go.

An 8.8 rear out of a 2000 Ford Explorer will work great. Disk brakes, integral E-brake, 31 spline axels and steel axel tubes to weld brackets for triangulated 4 bar link.

I set the rear under the chassis and spent the better part of a day or with the measuring tape (just to make sure everything was straight and square). I then set the rear at ride height. Then I welded a piece of angle across the top of the frame and down to the rear end housing on both sides to hold the rear in place while I installed the brackets.
Fitting the 8.8 with the 4 bar setup purchased from Ride Tech (AirRide). The brackets that came with the kit were just too short for my needs. Fabbing some new ones was in order.

THANKS! The car had been rodded some 25 years ago in Nevada. I looked at a lot of potential cars before purchasing this one. It was virtually rust free.
My shop is 100x80. Built the shop, with a 900 sq ft apartment, BEFORE the house was built. No matter how big you build it, you find a way to fill it up!Last edited by TerpnGator; 12-24-2014 at 04:11 PM.

Awesome photo too! Fillin' the shop with "stuff" is just the way it is right?!?! LOL.. Given enough time I'd surround that shop with trucks / tractors / pending projects.... Yeah, there never big enough right?!?!

Great looking project and shop! Ford sure did us hot rodders a big favor when they put that 8.8 in all the Explorers.

First time I've used the 8.8 but I love it!. Got the upper bar mounting tabs fabbed and installed. Now to get the lower bar mounts tacked in place and recheck that the bars are at the proper level. I keep going back and rechecking all my measurements and rear placement.

Looking good on the brackets! Got'em where you want them, and they look plenty stout. Looking forward to more of the project as you move forward. I'm envious of your shop. I built my barn 30'x50', and wish it was twice as big!! May be time for an addition....Roger
Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
