Got a little done tonight; doors and decklid off, all the plastic and rubber panels out of the interior and B pillars cut out. Top should be coming off shortly.

Just curious, Falcon, why cut the B pillar and top off if you're really just using the power train? Just ease of access to the inside, or ???

Basically I'm setting up a rolling engine stand. Im going to cut the car in half, put some casters under the back of the front half, and dispose of the rear half. So I'll have the front half of the car with the wiring intact and can roll it around if i need to. That'll free up some space in the shop and give me a good view of the front suspension, how the engine cradle is mounted, and an idea of what the rear of the new chassis should look like. Once all the wiring is sorted through and the chassis is built, I'll swap the drivetrain over and dispose of the old front.

Makes a lot of sense, and you had explained that process back in post #16 and I forgot about it CRS, ya' know.... Going to be a fun project, and if it doesn't work out the way you think you're not out a ton of $$$, either. The time invested just keeps the mind sharp, and the body out of the recliner!

Yeah, this is pretty much a learning experience for me which is why I held out for something cheap to start with. Worst case I end up with a killer go-kart.

Got the Taurus cut in half; just need to cut up the back half and get it out of the way. I was goin to put some casters on the front half but it's front heavy so there's no need to. it's pretty easy to balance and roll around.

But with casters and a seat could you have someone take pictures of you driving it up & down the street??

It might be fun to drive with a seat and no casters! It'd make a cool clown-mobile for a parade!

I have thought about a simmilar rear engined hotrod, except I had the idea for a Subaru WRX STI EJ257 with a common 5MT 5 speed and flipped R&P.. Beetle guys do it all the time, and boxers have a great rumble.. I actually just pulled an EJ25D from my '99 Legacy. Too bad it's been cooked bad and is a pile of junk or I'd have another project

Scratch building is great, make everything as you want it and it's easier than modding something else. With my Scratch built rat, I ended up channeling it 6" and changing the door openings after I initially constructed it. Also considered chopping it, but I think it's good as is.

Years ago there was an old guy who's show up in Highland, IL Father's Day car show every year in a 50/51 Merc that was running a Chrysler Automatic FWD 4 cylinder Diesel. He grafted the complete front suspension, drive train & floor pan to the front of the Merc frame. Craziest swap I had even seen, but then the seats in the car was made from of old Jack Daniels cask's....joe
