My 50 Year Project
Today was a red letter day.
I have owned a 1947 Chevy since 1963 and today I turned it over after about 40 years.
I got this car when I was about 15 years old and it has never been licensed since I had it. We just drove it on the farm until I left home for College and then about 30 years ago I brought it into the city and it has sat in my backyard ever since.
The breaks never worked. To stop I turned off the motor and geared down. The generator was sketchy so I always had to park on a hill. To start, I did the push and jump in routine (as I said I was only 15).
About 8 years ago, I decided to convert it into a rod and have been working on ever since (retirement is great!!).
See my website below for pictures:

Problems encountered today:
1. Fuel pump blew fuse. Seemed to be frozen. Tapped it with a screwdriver and put in a new fuse. Worked.
2. Several fuel line fittings were loose.
3. Huge water leak (I think the water hose was wrong size)
4. Oil sender in wrong location (water jacket). So much for listening to a garage that specializes in rebuilding engines.
5. Oil coming out were sender should be.
But the motor sounds great. Couldn't get the timing light connected so we did it by ear.
Had the distributor out about 5 times to adjust the vacuum advance.
It was a great day!Last edited by clover47; 09-24-2013 at 07:30 PM.

Enjoy the little things in life, and you may look back one day and realize that they were really the BIG things.
A "skip" = a dumpster.... but he says it's proper english??? Oh.. Okay. Most of us can see the dating site pun, "matching" with an arsonist.. But a "SKIP? How is that a box? It must all be...
