Just a short alert to the possibility of a problem when using studs on a build with alum heads---only seen this a couple/three/four times---but---- I have seen where studs used with alum heads has caused the alum material squeezed inward into the upper threads of the studs making the heads impossible to remove--I don't remember if this was because of a poor/non heat treat of the head casting, or that the hole was too close to the thread diameter---but, the head couldn't be removed until we took out the studs---sorta like the head material had been forged into the stud thread----------
IIRC, there are a couple of manufacturers (BHJ) that make a "top hat" type washer and with a special tool to machine the heads for the washer, works super-----I even like them on good heads

Nice patch jobs on the cab corner and floorboards. The engine definately looks good. Nothing like shinny aluminum heads. Any ideas of approximate horsepower with the edelbrock setup?" "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

Where's the skinny on the motor? What size is it? What static compression ratio? ~10.2:1 would be just right for that cam in a 350.
The cam will generate only 11" of vacuum. Strongly recommend an electric vacuum pump. You need minimum 18" to properly operate power brakes.

Do not risk your life on a vacuum can reservoir.

Saw this kit on Summit with the cam and I think the same heads as well as intake etc.. for a pretty good price. Impressive 420HP for the set

Wow, that is a nice mill you're building here! If you need I have an electric vacuum pump I removed from my Excursion I'll donate to your build as I don't need it because my engines have vacuum pumps on them. Give me your addy and I'll send it and the wiring connector from the truck. What color do you plan on going with? I love this body style. I just got another cummins truck to build for a fellow in New Mexico. It's going to be a 72 Longhorn 4x4 with a bale bed and a cummins. I look forward to your progress!Ryan

Been doing my favorite thing (NOT) body work. Notice my pine body bushings. I'm trying to remove as little metal as I have to, but the braces need replacing so some of the above metal has to go. The driver side is all in and tacked. Started passenger side about a week ago. I only get a couple hours a day on it as I helping a guy in town who has over booked his shop and himself.Charlie

I hope your favorite thing isn't rust repair. That would make you border line crazy IMO. You are getting into it now!Ryan

Had some more shop time. Engine is out dog house off. Time to clean frame and replace parts. I don't think there is anyway to get all the fluids out of an engine and trans other than pulling them. Always a mess.Charlie
