Man you lucked out on the wheels having the right bolt pattern. Those don't look bad on there either. Nice score on the 12 bolt posi. It does stink abou the carb, but you'll be better off now.Ryan

I was kind of surprised those old rims bolted up and fit as well as they did! They couldn't have fit any better then if I had ordered them special. I don't mind the look myself, kind of "old school" late 60's/early 70's look BUT... The wife says it needs shiney rims like the ones that came on it so, what's guy to do??? It'll get some shiney rims!
The carb swap is a pain but it's probably all for the best anyway. I am re-doing the old, brittle fuel line and will be waiting all weekend for parts to come in that I just ordered last night so it will be next week before she is back up and running. While she's apart (I pulled the battery & battery bracket last night so I could access the fuel line) I'll do some major cleaning and polishing. At least I can be getting something done while I am waiting.

She just wants shiny.
Get a mothers power ball kit and see if you can upgrade that satin finish..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

Thanks tons you guys! She "forced" me to work on it today while she mowed! She said she wants it back on the road and if I was helping mow it wasn't getting fixed! I love my wife!
Here are a few pics of what I've been doing with the carb swap.
This is the original QJ, which is junk. Has a melted booster in the main body. The fuel line was junk too...
This is the intake with the "melted" aluminum dripped on it.
This all just peeled off. Don't know what happened, the car was running and driving when I pulled the carb off...
I figured I would do a tune-up and run new fuel lines while doing the rebuild and, now that I am swapping to a different carb, the fuel line change is mandatory. I am waiting for fuel fittings to be delivered from Jegs. Won't be here till Monday though. I am running black AN fittings and black braided hose.
I got most of the carb and tune-up work done today. I had to get an adapter to mount the square bore carb on the QJ manifold and I also decided to try a 1" phenolic space under that. Here is everything mocked up.
Right now the carb sits almost 2" higher then the QJ did.
Here is the new carb all mounted and hooked up.
With the air cleaner in place. The QJ had to run a spacer on the air cleaner so it would clear the radiator hose. This set up doesn't need the spacer anymore.
I ran new plug wires but hadn't gotten the wire loom kit from Taylor yet. I got that today and will get the wires tidied up tomorrow. I also have to do the wiring for the electric choke.
Also did a bunch of cleaning while I was under there. Cleaned up most of the hoses, ran some new vacuum lines and cleaned up the routing on a few others.

I had to modify some machine screws to get the adapter and spacer bolted to the intake. Those two spacers actually bolt down first, then the carb is bolted to some studs in the top of the adapter.
Here are the screws I modified. These were 5/16-18 x 2 1/2" long screws.
I had to shorten them to 2 1/4" long and turn the heads down to .500 from .580 so they would fit the counterbored holes in the top of the adapter.
This is how they sit in the adapter.
These screws use the original carb bolt pattern to bolt the spacers to the intake. The carb then attaches with the studs you see in the pic.If money is the root of all evil... Women must be the fertilizer...

This is another issue I am seeing with the engine.
This mess is cause by the battery. The corner of the battery tray sits right above the header pipes. Dripping water or battery acid has caused this.
Well I hope to have everything done but the fuel lines tomorrow. If I get all of my stuff Monday it should be fired up Monday night! With all of the stuff I have found with the carb I am expecting this thing to pull wheelies with a good one...

Stainless headers or an Optima... No room in the front due to the A/C compressor.
She's back on the road! Got after it tonight (last night got to busy with my daughters car and some storms rolling through). Made up the two fuel lines, hooked them to the filter and carb, tightened everything up (double checked everything) hung the battery and fired her up!
I have a couple of things to do yet. I will add an Adel clip to the corner of the battery box to keep the hose from rubbing. About where my finger is here.
Yup, looks a little neater then the as received photo...
Tonight.
When I started the swap.
She rolled over for about 10 seconds before coming to life, I didn't even touch the throttle! No leaks and it looks like I didn't mess up the plug wire order when I was changing those out! I will do some adjustment on the carb after I get some miles on it. The engine fires up and idles just fine with the out of the box settings on the carb.
I took about a 4 mile test drive and the throttle response is crisp and MUCH better then with the wasted QJ. I kinda wish that carb had been okay just to compare. I also got two thumbs up in that 4 mile drive...If money is the root of all evil... Women must be the fertilizer...
