Very slick; it'll probably make great power and get killer gas mileage, too.

I thought the same thing. I don't have any tail light lens so maybe graft something like the chevy in

Today I took the body off again to trim off the rest of the unnecessary sheet metal and cut out the inner rear wheel wells so that the tires would fit. Also notched the ends of the frame rails to match the body shape and provide needed tire clearance. Finished off the day by grinding off a ton of undercoating. What a mess!

My hubcaps from Summit/United Pacific came in yesterday. They are chrome plastic with an outer white edge for the white wall tire look. Made in Taiwan...but designed in Germany! Good quality/good price and they won't rust.

The tires fit the wheel opening very well and I am very happy with the body drop aesthetics.

Started fabricating the upper strut mounts

Sourcing parts for a short driveshaft with a slip joint to accommodate the rubber mounted engine

The male and female yokes fit perfectly but unfortunately are never quite in-phase. Today I machined an alignment collar so that I can cut, rotate and weld the female yoke. Currently it is out of phase by 9 degrees which apparently will cause noise and vibration.

Nice work on this little ride. That shaft definitely would shake that thing apart.

The 1310 series rear yoke has the same bolt pattern as the Miata diff but the holes are drilled for 1/2" bolts and the Miata is drilled for 5/16" (8mm). Machined some inserts to take up the slack

More work on fitting the spicer 1310 series flange yoke to the Miata diff. The stock driveshaft has a male pilot bushing built in but the spicer is a female. This bushing will get sandwiched in between to serve as the pilot. It is machined down from 2" round bar stock.

I really appreciate the craftsmanship in this post - You truly are a master at fabrication and when ingenuity is added it results in just awesome work!

Thanks, I appreciate the encouragement! That lathe was the best $600 I ever spent. It was originally sold by Montgomery Wards back in the 40's, I believe
