Thread: LS1 swap into 53 Chevy

I've got a set of shorty C10 swap headers stuck under my workbench. If you want, I can take a few pics and measurements. They dump to the rear, but not as far as the newer truck manifolds.

Thanks, I have the manifolds ordered already though,I think they'll work. These are the ones I have ordered . Hooker Headers 8501: LS Cast Iron Exhaust Manifolds Raw Finish | JEGS There is a measurement chart somewhere on the page. Are the C 10 ones for an LS motor ? A pic wouldn't hurt if your bored just cause I'm curious.Seth

Nice work Seth! Another thing you can do to hide those coils is to make faux SBC valve covers by making adapters to bolt to the 5.3 valve covers and notch them where needed for wires to come out. I wouldn't leave the hood down either way. If someone doesn't like it, tell you them you have a 348 you'll make them a deal on.
I have a solution on your manifold issue..... Flip them side to side and then make pipes to feed the turbo you haven't gotten yet.Ryan

That's a good idea for the covers, or some W engine ones that i'm not using That's all going to wait till winter, and the turbo's too I'll be honest, starting to get a tad bit sick of working on this thing. I'm going to take off work Friday and not tell the Mrs, and my goal is to pick her up after her work with the 53 and head to Sioux Falls for a little date night. She will be crazy excited, hopefully when we get home tooSeth

Well, I got the harness and fuel system from Swanke Motors and I have nothing to compare it to but it sure is nice. They have all the options and specs on the computer and the software info on it. It doesn't look like they cut any corners on it. The fuel system is just as nice but it is just sourced stuff from Speedway, which is fine by me. Saves me the hassle and ordering the wrong thing. The engine is getting a lot more busy looking and I can't find where to hook up the choke wireSeth

Since you can't use it for the choke, maybe you could use it to fire the glow plugs.

Got the new manifolds/headers from Hooker today and the pipes for em, yippie skippy , do the happy dance, they fit beautiful, so nice I almost put the I Love my Hooker Headers sticker on the window. If they didn't fit I was going to flip and manifolds and turbo it or put a Cummins in it
Got the motor mounts measured up with the manifolds on, and welded em to the frame and also did a little overhaul in a can to the motor. Just for future notice, the Mustang II ls mounts that are designed for the bolt on Mustang cross member do not fit the weld on ones very good at all. Best to use a universal kit. Also got the ECM mounted under the seat, so far it's all starting to come together fairly well for once. I'm working like a dog on it, but tons to do yet,so I'm not sure how friday night is going to endSeth

Forgot a pic, I dropped long bolts through the motor mounts to find the right distance apart.Seth

Those Hooker manifolds look and fit good. Looks like they fit your truck like they were made for it. It's always nice when parts really do fit like they're supposed to.

I researched those hookers for my stude 5.3, they are really nice, they are almost identical to the 2010 camaro manifolds. I really wanted them but I could tell from my measurements they wouldn't work for me. Nice progress, you're moving right along.
Merry Christmas ya'll
