It definitely sucks to repair someone's hacked work. To me it looks like your vacuum line issue saved you a lot of money. If that line didn't get torn off, you may have not caught the strut rod mounts ripping off your frame. It really looks like the car ht some huge chuck holes because the mounts appear ripped out of the frame and it looked like the frame rail had some distortion too. Nice job repairing it though.
Don't get too discouraged with it. At least you can drive yours! It'll be a while before I can finish fixing all the PO's work on my car!Ryan

Yes, it sounds like you've hit a streak of bad luck. That frame was a real shocker. I'd agree that the brakes was really a blessing in hindsight.

i have done this repair many times over the years . you may find the saddle cracked also. it's hard for a repair on fatigued metal to hold up. keep a close eye on it .

I went with the Truck-Lite 7" round LED (designed for Jeeps)

I watched a dozen videos comparing multiple brands, and the Truck-lite came out on top in 90% of the reviews.
things to consider:
the halogen glass for the 1938-1941 Fords is defused to properly spread the light pattern, since the LED replacement have a defused reflector, you need to use the clear glass replacement lenses (https://www.ebay.com/itm/1939-Ford-D...-/350916416027)
otherwise you are defusing the light pattern twice and basically have no useable light in front of the car..
the Truck-lite LEDs are a 7" round replacement, so all you have to do is remove the aiming frame, remove the halogen 7" round (reflector or sealed beam housing; depending on what you have) and replace it with the Truck-lite.
if you want to use the normal defused glass, then you would need to remove the outer lens on the Truck-lite LEDs (but this voids their warranty).
I bought all new buckets as the ones I had were in bad shape. I opted for the buckets with the sealed beam to be sure swapping in the LED (which is technically also a sealed beam) would be an easy swap, as I wasn't sure if the halogen reflector buckets had the same type of aiming frame:

The LED light is WHITE, so compared to a yellowish halogen it might take a bit of getting used too.
my other vehicles have factory LED headlights, (Lexus RCF and a Toyota Camry Hybrid) so I been adjusted to that type of light for several years and I prefer it, the light is crisp and white and makes everything easier to see, less strain on the eye during night driving. and properly installed with the correct lenses doesn't blind oncoming traffic (unlike the people that like to stick HID bulbs into a halogen reflector).Last edited by mjeds; 10-19-2017 at 02:58 PM.
