And another Dodge
I'll start off defending myself, I'm not as bad of an impulse buyer as I used to be . I seen this ad on FB when I was on vacation about a week and a half ago but said to myself I'll wait awhile and see if it sells. Well last Friday I checked it was still up so I had the guy call me and the Mrs and I went to the storage unit to check it out. It looked pretty solid in the pics but it was in even better shape that the pictures showed. It is all disassembled but every nut and bolt in categorized in cups detailing where they go. He took $500 for it because it was his uncles pickup and he just wanted it to go to a good home. I'm afraid this one is too nice and complete to chop up,we're going to put it back together in stock condition leaving the body as is. I think I'll end up selling it when I get my other Dodge that's getting a frame swap done finished, but I think I can get this one running again before we start on the kitchenSeth

There you go!
I've become the same way but with machines, lathes, mills... it's becoming more scarce around here (nor'east) and I hate to let the scrap man get'em.

Well I took home the 48 and so far I've not been disappointed. They were a super nice couple who sold it to me and I will be the 4th owner. He was a Vietnam vet who's health has been deteriorating due to Agent Orange and he knew he wasn't going to get it back together. He and his wife helped us load up the pickup and parts and I was a sweaty gross mess at the end but his wife still had to give me a hug before I left . I couldn't help but put it a little bit back together when I got it home and it went pretty easy due to his labeling and organization of parts and bolts.I'm not crazy about how Dodge liked to paint the boxes black back then but that's the way it was so that's how it's going to be.I'm going to keep him updated on progress as I get it back together and hope to drive it to Sioux Falls when I'm finished to let him drive it.Seth

Is that a light on the roof?
This truck will have a great story with it. I hope he gets to drive it.

Here's a little update on the 48. I decided to go through the brakes first and it needed the expected, seal kits in everything and new front shoes as the old linings were coming loose. It might get hoses too because these are 71 years old, although they look very good. I took the front pulley off to put a seal in and I thought I would give it a quick compression test via finger over the spark plug hole and I found that 4 and 5 had zero compression. I pulled the head off and found that I had three valves stuck open and they were pretty stubborn about coming loose. I felt the valve guides and they were terrible so I pulled the valves to replace the guides and thought I might as well pop a piston and see if I can just re-ring this thing. Nope. The top ring groove was terrible, It has .023 slop up and down so it needs new pistons and I don't like putting new pistons in ugly holes so I'll yank the block and get it bored. As one thing leads to another this motor is a 218 and from what I understand the only difference between a 218 and 230 is the crank and rods. I have a 230 in one of the other Dodges I took home but it's stuck tight. I would to get them out and put them in the 218 but it could suck so I not sure if it's worth it.Seth

Seth, head back to that FB place and type in "leaning tower of power" on the search bar...………...Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

You must have found the same FB group. I was really kicking around the idea of a repower but this thing is such a survivor it I'm trying to do more of a restore rather than a repower, although it's taking a bit of self control. A repower with a slant six interested me enough where I did look for a nice running one for a bit. My next Dodge build is going to be an open book to do whatever I want.Seth
