Finally seems like we're getting somewhere. Got the ceiling finished and some ship lap on the walls, at least enough to finally get the cupboards in so we can get rid of the relocated old ones. We cheaped out on the ship lap, we are using plywood and cutting 6 inch strips out of it for the look of it. It's getting too nice outside to work in the house.Seth

Seth, that is a pretty good idea on the ship lap. That stuff is pretty expensive IMO. How did you attach it to the wall? Finish nails? It is getting nice out but then it goes to crap so hurry and you might be able to get in the shop before it is in the 90s every day.

For the finished floor we're using the same stuff we used for the living room floor which is what you see in the picture. It's a laminate floor with a Apple Wood finish. We are using a finish nailer to attach the ship lap to the wall ,we put black tar paper down first to keep the gap looking dark between the boards.Last edited by 53 Chevy5; 04-23-2020 at 10:13 PM.

Slowly but surely were getting there, cupboards and floor are in, we have trim to do and doors to stain yet. The counter guys also need to put the new counter in whenever they are finished with it, I never asked them how long it was going to be I think we're going to slow it down a bit and enjoy the nice weather if it ever comes. I have to finish up some wiring in the basement and do some duct work routing and re design the furnace cold air intake. When a guy thinks he's about done that's when there is about 3 months leftSeth

Thanks guys, on the farm house sink was one of the non-negotiables on Kari's list. Many years of mistakes have got me to the point where I'm almost somewhat comfortable with doing carpentry. I remember my first big job was putting vinyl siding on our house in town. I had all the siding bought and no idea how to put it on, I made a lot of trips to our church around the corner seeing how they did it lol. 20 years later, the house still looks good so I must have done all right. I'm not an expert, there's just not much I'm too afraid to try lol.Seth

Great job, Seth!
I had to laugh at, "... I made a lot of trips to our church..." I've certainly had my share of projects where God alone knows how I finished them and no one will ever convince me that God doesn't care about the details. A remodel project will always test your faith!!

I've enjoyed watching your kitchen come together because I know what you're going through. Well.., sort of. I did ours two years ago; it wasn't quite as big a job as yours, but no less frustrating at times. My house is a 1957 vintage concrete block home built on a slab (common construction for Florida). Somebody remodeled the tiny little kitchen sometime in the 1960s, enlarged it to a galley kitchen, and it was really looking tired. We gutted it out to the bare walls (and one section to the studs). I won't go into all the details, but it took my wife and me just over 9 weeks to finish it all including removing the ceramic tile floors and replacing them with new laminate floors in the kitchen, dining room, living room, and hallway. By the time we finished I had invented some new cusswords (wore out all the old ones) and was seriously doubting my sanity. Anyway, it's done and the wife loves it, so it was all worth it. Here's a couple of picks of before and after.Jim
