but it's a 4 door........Mine's getting close, maybe a shakedown later this week! Got the windshield and quarter windows in, have to finish up the door glass and back glass. Waiting for the dang release cables for the doors right now, got to have a back up in case the remote electrics fail!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

nice man, real nice. I personally don't mind 4 doors, I'm a big guy and like big rides. I like the suicide thing too. keyless entry is trick too man. There's a guy somewhere in town here (used to be at least) with a tangerine orange 50 or 51 ford, chopped, white vinyl top, keyless entry and remote start. I saw him start it up walking across the parking lot then pop the door. too cool.

but is a 4 door , what does that mean
Thats a good looking Merc you got going there, keep us posted with pictures of your progress.
My buddy has a 49 Merc that has been in his family since 1955, he has owned it since 1959. He just re did it about 2 years ago, and it is one sharp ride. He won the James Dean award last year in Fairmont, IN., so it will be on all the flyers, t-shirts, hats, etc for the 2007 event.

It's not mine, man I wish. I have a friend that is looking for a car though and am going to put him onto this one, maybe he'll grab it and I'll get to help work on it. besides, I'm out of shop space anyways (isn't it funny how a 3 car garage can be a one car garage?)
That is a nice car, yours? are there no rear door handles?

The thing about late 40's and 50's cars is that nobody is building them anymore, not in glass nor in metal. So the fact that they are 4 doors versus 2 doors may be a bit inconsequential over time. I have seen a number of 4 doors customized to the point that they are every bit as nice, or nicer than many two doors. As a matter of fact my 57 Olds is a four door car. Can't beat a four door for comfortable cruising with 3 or 4 of your best buds or chicks as the case may be.

Come on dave, the only difference is the length of the front door, whats a few inches?(insert smart remark here) and besides the only way you can tell mine was ever a more door is the rear windows are a little longer.

Glad to see there's so many 4-door advocates out there. I've always liked certain models better in a 4 door, especially suicide doors. Jack, that's the first time I've seen a picture of the front of your Desoto; very cool indeed.

Actually, my wife's father has a 1939 Fordor Deluxe with suicide doors in the rear and I personally think it is a nicer looking design than the Tudor's of the same vintage.

That is nice! Just about the same color my wife has picked out for the Plymouth. BTW, happy belated birthday, Don.

Thanks Don! Now that it is over, birthday and furniture moving, I can recuperate and just feel old, instead of old and in pain.
Hard to tell in the photo but the 39 is painted Candy Apple Red with blue flames on the front fenders and hood. Interior is grey and dark red. Drive train is a 305/350. Nice looking and nice running car.
