School me on tire size differences please---

My new (2007) Ford Ranger has P225-70R15 tires on it---all season radials. I have a set of 4 Blizzak 205-70R15 ice/snow tires left over from when I had my 98 Chev car. Can anyone tell me what the difference is? I may want to put them on my truck this coming winter. Thanks---Brian

Nice Chart, But I think there is a transposed number in the 70 Series:

    205 70 15 26.30
    215 70 15 26.85
    225 70 15 24.70
    235 70 15 27.95
    255 70 15 29.06

I think the 225 70 15 should be 27.40 tall instead of 24.70. So Brian, Changing those tires will put you just over an inch shorter, or .5 inches shorter in radius. That will impact your speedo accuracy, Car will be running slower at the indicated speed.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

You should have no problems with the tires, but I always like to check to see if my rim width is going to be in an acceptable range for the recommended tire size. The recommended rim size for a 205/70 is 5.0 - 7.0 inches and the recommended rim size for a 225/70 is 6.0 to 7.5 inches. As long is as your rim size falls with in that range you should be good. Using rims wider or narrower rims then recommended could produce bad results. Also your rim size will dictate how the tire looks on the wheel.

I always use the Radial T/A tire chart found on the BFG site to compare sizes, heights and rim widths. Although other charts may vary based on tread pattern, the other specs remain pretty much the same. The one I use is at: http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/specs/radial-t-a/12.html
